Widely regarded as one of the most exciting mini-games to ever appear in the Final Fantasy franchise, Blitzball could soon be making an appearance in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn if recent comments in an IGN interview are any indication.

During a recent interview with IGN, Final Fantasy XIV’s Naoki Yoshida discussed the possibility of seeing the popular water sport debut in online form following its original and hugely successful appearance in Final Fantasy X, a game recently enjoying a surge in popularity following a HD remake release on PlayStation 4.

“We can’t say it’s been decided yet, this may be just half-joking so don’t write it down as confirmed. But there was a meeting about two months ago where I had a chance to speak with Kitase-San, and I mentioned there seemed to be a big demand for implementing a Blitzball element in Final Fantasy XIV, and Kitase-San was just like, ‘Oh wow, I never knew that? That could be cool to consider! Naoki Yoshida

It’s not an official announcement or even confirmation but the fact it’s at least a discussion point is exciting enough for fans of the Blitzball mini-game. Watch this space!
