DUST 514 Will Be 100% Free-To-Play At Launch, Vita Version to Be "Companion App"

Dust 514
DUST 514, the MMOFPS that I can’t wait to play, will be free at launch.  Originally planned as a microtransaction-based title to be released with a $20 entry fee, the game will now simply be free for download on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita consoles.  “We wanted to make it unambiguously that this is a free-to-play game,” CCP’s Brandon Laurino told Eurogamer. “We probably will still have some kind of pack like that.”

The Vita version is going to be more of a mobile hub than a full game, allowing players to access the store, customize their character, and set up strategies with their PS3 counterparts.  “As we continue to explore what the possibilities are, between Vita and PS3, of which there are many, we’ll keep updating the app with stuff like that over time,” Laurino said.  The Vita is certainly powerful enough to handle the game on some level, but we’ll have to wait and see what comes about from this.  I would be fine with a more powerful console game and no mobile version if there was a significant difference.
