Grand Theft Auto Online Could Be Huge

Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most highly anticipated titles of our time but does its MMO addition have the potential to break the MMO market? Although not an MMO by true definition, anything with the word “online” in the title is fair game today. The eagerly awaited Rockstar release managed to attract over ?500 million in retail sales in just a single day and that’s not even in dollars, that’s in real money!

It is now officially also the fastest selling game in history after selling 1.57 million units in a day, just slightly topping that of the previous holder Call of Duty: Black Ops.

“Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting
the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation
and excellence. Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers
around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to
experience the evolution of this remarkable series.”

But what does this all mean for Grand Theft Auto Online? Well there are more than 1.5 million players that already have access to the upcoming expansion on Grand Theft Auto V, and that’s not including sales past the first day. GTA Online also borrows many features and mechanics from GTAV, giving fans even more opportunity to sample San Andreas.

The player base is already there. The high scoring reviews are already in place. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the GTA Online release next month.
