Weekend Watch: New Releases Hellblade and LawBreakers

Hey Attackers, we have two very different game releases to look at this week. One is an incredibly atmospheric, and at times, claustrophobic single player game and the other is a multiplayer only, hero shooter that’s all about floating and gunning. Let’s take a look.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

This is a game that’s stunning in many ways and not just because of how much work went into creating the game’s atmosphere or art style. The main draw of Hellblade is how it tackles mental illness in a visceral and unflinching way.

It’s a game that focuses more on making you identify with Senua than it is a game focused on hacking and slashing. Combat is there but maybe not in the quantities some would like. If you’re looking for a game that’s a bit different–one that’s immersive and disturbing, then you should give Hellblade a try.

LawBreakers

Lawbreakers is probably as far removed from Hellblade as you can get. It’s a multiplayer only, character/class based shooter that is all about killin’. It’s from the mind of Cliffy B, the man who brought us chainsaw machine guns, so you know it has tons of personality.

Lawbreakers is all about skill, twitch reflexes and speed. If you’re someone who has a lot of trouble with accuracy(like me) or enjoys camping prone next to wooden crates, this may not be the title for you. It’s incredibly fast paced and you can attack–and be attacked, from pretty much any angle. The game places an emphasis on verticality and many of the heroes have jetpacks, grappling hooks and other ways to traverse the maps quickly.

So basically everyone is Genji? Not exactly, even though he wouldn’t be too out of place here. And speaking of Genji– just how similar is this game to Overwatch? Honestly, not as similar as you may think. Yes, it’s a team based, objective oriented game. And yes, there are classes and different characters. But the winning team will be decided by who has the better aim, not which team has the least Hanzos. It’s a throwback arena shooter first and a class based hero shooter second.

Two very different games to be sure, but both have been well received so far and both are only $29.99. Either one catch your eye? Let us know in the comments.
