"Pay-To-Win" MMO Portal To Aquire Warframe Developers

A new document has surfaced online that suggests award-winning development studio Digital Extremes, developers of the hugely popular Warframe, could soon be flying under new colors with the potential acquisition by Perfect World Entertainment and Sumpo Food Holdings.

Perfect World Entertainment, the team behind the likes of RaiderZ and the newly released Swordsman Online, have earned a reputation for poor management and deployment of micro-transaction models with many of the MMO community accusing PWE of supporting the pay-to-win approach – developing games with the sole intention of restricting vast amounts of content under a free-to-play guise.

The Warframe community wasted little time in expressing their concerns as thousands flocked to the forums and Subreddit in an attempt to amass support for a new petition in Change.org.

In just over 24 hours 4,789 Warframe fans have signed the petition, pleading with the developers in the hope that Warframe remains unchanged. Although it’s an honorable cause there’s little evidence to support a complete takeover by Perfect World Entertainment, instead it’s far more likely that Warframe will join the new ARC community ahead of the Xbox One launch later this year.

“You may have read something about the business development side of Digital Extremes and it may have you concerned,” Digital Extremes Video Game Director Steve Sinclair said on the game’s forums. “For legal reasons, we can’t disclose specifics but if you know the history of Warframe you’d know that we are intent on having Warframe’s design remain in the hands of Digital Extremes. Yes, opportunities will arise for us but the game itself is and will remain a labor of love.”
