Here?s an interesting story from the rumor mill: It looks like InPlay Interactive, the Korean developer behind the recent F.E.A.R.: Origin Online, may have just scored itself a couple of massive MMO franchises. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, rumors indicate that Warner Bros. Entertainment has bought a large stake in the game developer, and in doing so has offered up the licensees to two of the company?s biggest IPs: Batman and Lord of the Rings.
If true, this means that InPlay can immediately start work on both a Batman and Lord of the Rings MMO, though admittedly for a Korea-exclusive release. The Korean market is notoriously difficult for western MMORPGs, with both Warhammer Online and Lord of the Rings Online ending up shut down due to low subscriber interest.
There are naturally no details regarding what Warner Bros. may be up to, nor on how InPlay would go about developing a brand new Batman MMO and a Lord of the Rings MMO that strikes enough of a contrast from the existing Lord of the Rings Online.
We?ll keep you updated as the story rolls on. In the meantime, what would you think of a Batman-themed action MMORPG?
