Rumors surrounding the potential announcement of a State of Decay MMO gained a little more traction today following the announcement of a new acquisition. Patrick Wyatt, Co-Founder of ArenaNet and En Masse Entertainment, has officially joined the staff of Undead Labs and although he’s not allowed to discuss what he’s working on, he did leave a pretty big hint:
“I can’t talk anything about what I’m working on here at Undead Labs …
yet. … But … I specialize in developing really big multiplayer games. So
I guess maybe I’ll be working on something like that, at least as soon
as I get one of the cool lab coats everyone around here has.”
Undead Labs recently signed a multi-game agreement with Microsoft and it’s no secret that State of Decay was originally planned to be a multiplayer title. When asked about the future of the IP Undead Labs Co-Founder Jeff Strain stated:
“Today, I’m very happy to announce that Patrick has joined Undead Labs,
and will be working shoulder-to-shoulder with Team Zed as we dive into
the development of… well, what’s next, and beyond,”
We’re still waiting on official confirmation of their next title but an MMO is looking more likely every day.
