According to a leaked email from Red 5 Studios Vice President of Development James Macauley, current CEO Mark Kern could be on the way out following a vote from the board of directors. The email was obtained by GameFront from a source apparently very close to the company, although this has yet to be verified.
Mark Kern is the last remaining founder still on board with Red 5 Studios, a development company originally created by employees formerly of Blizzard and World of Warcraft. In 2010 Chinese company The9 acquired a majority stake in Red 5 Studios, with over 50% of its staff cut shortly after. Earlier this year the developers suffered yet more layoffs with 10% of its staff being let go.
Quote from the email:
Today, the Red 5 Studios Board of Directors met and after deliberation
have decided that Mark Kern will no longer be the Chief Executive
Officer or on the Board of Red 5 Studios. Effective immediately Mark
will no longer have any authority to act for or on behalf of Red 5
Studios.
Firefall has already suffered from a vast amount of problems following its open beta period, including the removal of PvP, but this could be a major set back for the struggling MMO.
