Square Enix revealed some rather shocking information over the weekend as they announce a free PlayStation 4 upgrade for those that purchase Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on the PlayStation 3. According to the new information current players will be able to explore Eorzea on the upcoming PlayStation 4, without the need to purchase the game for a second time.
More details are expected to become available shortly but Square Enix have bigger fish to fry as they prepare the game and servers for the next-generation platform. Although this has widely been accepted as good news, I for one am a little skeptical.
I’m concerned that the PlayStation 3 may not be good enough to enjoy all of the content on offer. There have been a number of issues with loading NPC characters and enemies during combat, as well as the problem of frame-rate drops during large-scale battles; all of which feature heavily in end-game content. This may be a preemptive attempt at subduing a possible hostile outburst from the community in coming weeks.
However, it could just be good news. What do you think?
