Pirahnha Games, creators of MechWarrior Online, have announced that they will be licencing the CryEngine 3 engine (Famously used in Crysis 2 and the coming FarCry 3) from Crytek for the mech combat game. The studio gives the reason for the use of CryEngine 3 as the advanced physics simulation being a highly desired trait of the engine in addition to the great graphical fidelity offered by it, primarily on the particle effects that will make exploding missiles, shrapnel, and falling debris look incredibly realistic. Fans of the MechWarrior series should be very excited to see the effects the engine will have on the experience when the game is completed.
