Grinding Gear Games have just announced that their highly popular dungeon crawling MMORPG, Path of Exile, has just passed the two million registered players milestone. The open beta period has only been live since January 23rd but the game has received an overwhelmingly positive response from both players and the media, prompting millions to sign up and give it a shot.
“We’re really pleased with Path of Exile’s reception. It blew our expectations out of the water and continues to grow every day,” said Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games. “The continued feedback and support from our fans has been great. We expect to add a lot of new content and features during the Open Beta period as we approach full release later this year.”
A large reason behind the success is the constant string of updates deployed by the developers. I’ve seen my fair share of open beta titles but very few match the regular content updates seen in Path of Exile. Each and every week Grinding Gear Games have added something new to the game. Recent updates have included brand new skills, an increase in level cap and the implementation of community built items.
Another aspect benefiting players is the ethical approach to micro-transactions. It’s a free-to-play title but Grinding Gear Games are doing everything possible to ensure it doesn’t transfer to pay-to-win. Mark my words, Path of Exile is going to be one of the biggest
MMO games of 2013.
