Some of you may have read an article in my Ideal MMO series that detailed the potential of an MMO game based on the popular Road Rash franchise. Obviously some budding developers read my article, noticed the genius and decided to make a game based loosely on that idea. Stepping out of my fantasy world for a second it’s more likely that the game has nothing to do with my article as the initial plans began in 2009, and it’s got more features than I could have hoped to dream of.
What am I talking about? Road Redemption. For all intents and purposes, it’s a next-gen game that features very similar mechanics to Road Rash. Road Redemption has just been placed on the popular Kickstarter website with the hopes of reaching $160,000 in the next 27 days. At the time of this post the game has already amassed quite the following with over 1,100 backers pledging over $34,000.
The game boasts a variety of unique features such as insane crashes, destructible environments, ragdoll physics and online multiplayer. Currently scheduled as a PC release the developers have high hopes that the game will reach next-generation consoles.
The developers have quite the resume backing the game with designers and programmers involved in previous workings such as God of War: Ascension, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Tabula Rasa.
Following a recent development with a fan petition for EA to revive the Road Rash franchise, it’s clear there’s a following and an interest. For more information about the game check out the official Kickstarter page.
