Portalarium today released details of the incredibly exciting Release 3 build update for Lord British’s (Richard Garriott) upcoming MMORPG game, Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues. A little over 10 months ago Shroud of the Avatar appeared on Kickstarter and marked a return to fantasy roots for ex Tabula Rasa and Ultima developer Richard Garriott – and the response from the gaming community was overwhelming. The development team originally asked for $1 million in funding but managed to successfully raise almost double that during the Kickstarter window. Since that time funds have continued pouring in through the official website, now nearing $3.3 million as the game nears the launch of Release 3.
Release 3 is scheduled to begin later today, Thursday February 20th at 10:30 AM Central Time, continuing through to this Saturday, February 22nd. The access will be available to all supporters with the First Responder / Adventurer level pledges and above.
The large update includes a myriad of exciting features but most notably is the introduction of multiplayer, finally! Online multiplayer will be introduced with the Release 3 update and is accompanied by the skeleton features of a crafting system, a third municipality in the form of a tiny village, the ability to sell and purchase items from in-game stores and even player made music.
