Let’s rewind back to 1999 in Japan, it has been two years since Capcom released a fighting game and they need something new. Instead of making a new Street Fighter, Capcom tried to make a games that will appeal to the masses. What was popular in 1999 Japan you may ask? Three words my friends: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure!
For those who do not know of the series, I will shed some light. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is a fighting game by Capcom based on the manga series of the same name. This game is based on the third part of the series, Stardust Crusaders, and features a unique gameplay element known as “stands.” Stands are the physical, ghostlike representation of a person’s fighting spirit. The stands give the players special abilities, in addition to helping players fight, and guard attacks, a player can perform massive combos while his or her stand is active. The graphics are very similar to another Capcom franchise, Darkstalkers; and has the same reccuring theme of horror, although it’s done in a more unique and bizarre fashion.
What Capcom did with this franchise could not have been done any better. However, after Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure release, it would seem to be the last game to make it to the United States… until 2012 that is.
Fast forward to San Diego Comic Con 2012, Capcom announced that a high-definition port of the game is currently being developed, reportedly by CyberConnect2. Features include improved graphic filters, super-story mode, and online multiplayer.

The game will be released on PlayStation Network on August 21, 2012 and Xbox Live Arcade on August 22, 2012.
