After what feels like an age Red 5 Studios’ eagerly awaited free online open world shooter, Firefall, has officially ended all testing phases and entered official release. Firefall is now available in North America, Europe and Australia on the PC via Valve’s digital distribution platform, Steam. While the game embodies the free-to-play elements of the MMO world, a Digital Deluxe Edition is available for $99.99 which includes a variety of in-game perks including 3 months of VIP membership. A slightly cheaper option is available for $29.99 that offers similar perks but only a single months worth of VIP membership.
“We designed Firefall to be our dream game, and now the team
at Red 5 Studios is humbled and thrilled to see this dream become a
reality with the launch of Firefall today,” said James Macauley, CEO of Red 5 Studios. “Firefall is
built from the ground up to be a true AAA MMO experience which allows
players to explore a post-apocalyptic Earth through a well-narrated
campaign and engage various threats through action-packed, skill-based
combat.”
The game boasts many of the features you would expect in a newly released MMO title but certain elements have undergone vast changes since the games original announcement. One of which was the focus on PvP and attempting to break into the eSports world, however the developers have since changed their approach to PvP entirely. Instead opting to provide a more standard approach to MMO PvP – as opposed to the ridiculous level of balancing required for the competitive leagues.
