Looking Forward – MMO’s Coming 2013 Part 2

In our first look at what’s coming next year we took a peak at the highly anticipated DayZ standalone, the innovative Dust 514 and the currently disappointing Wizardry Online. Follow us as we continue our journey into the unknown with our top MMO game picks of 2013.

Currently under the “Foundation Release, a term quite obviously borrowed from the DayZ staff, The War Z is scheduled to hit the virtual shelves sometime early 2013. I can’t say I’m excited about the actual game itself, I’m more excited to find out if it actually makes it to release after such a controversial development cycle. The developers have been accused of fraud and plagiarism, and recently the game was removed from Steam 24 hours after going on sale. For the full lowdown on the game, you can check our The War Z tag which features all related articles.

More recently the developers, Hammerpoint Interactive, have been told they’ll have to change the actual name of the game after losing a trademark battle with Paramount Pictures as it appears their upcoming movie World War Z also has a possible game franchise trademark. So even if The War Z does make it to release next year it will be under a different title.

Dodgy public relations and development aside, The War Z has captured the hearts of thousands and with improvements, many feel it could still become a great game. A sandbox type approach to the MMO zombie genre with full-loot PvP and hundreds of zombies sounds amazing on paper but the developers have a long way to go if they want to restore the players’ faith in the company.

I’m not really sure if this belongs in a list of the top MMO games of 2013 as we know practically nothing about it. Titan, the games current working name, is a 2013 scheduled MMORPG from Blizzard, the developers of one of the most popular MMORPG’s in history, World of Warcraft. Frank Pearce, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President at Blizzard, confirmed the development of a new title from the MMO giants, but passed that he mentioned very little.

The original announcement was sent out back in December of 2010 and we still know next to nothing despite apparently being in development since 2007. Blizzard are well known for keeping their cards close to their chest so we don’t expect to hear anything until a few months from the games release but you can be sure we’ll have it covered.

Possibly my personal favorite of our MMO’s of 2013 selections, The Elder Scrolls Online. Supported by a fan base that has grown over the last 15 years and backed up by just as much in-game lore and background stories. The Elder Scrolls has long been a franchise made for the MMO universe and fans have been begging for an online adaption for almost as long as Final Fantasy fans have been pleading for a FF7 remake.

Again, information on the game is a little scarce in terms of factual bits. The official website does have some interesting Q&A’s and concept images but Bethesda seem to be avoiding giving too much information on any of the hardcore mechanics.

For more information on the game you can visit the offical website. Our very own Mark McDonald was also lucky enough to get his hands on The Elder Scrolls Online so be sure to head on over and read his Elder Scrolls Preview
