Browser-based FPS title Man vs. Machine has a lot to brag about this morning. The game is now the official Guinness World Record holder for most players online simultaneously in an FPS. MuchDifferent, the development studio behind the title, managed to land 999 players in one massive death match.
The previous record, held by Planetside, was a mere 600 players. Not only did Man vs. Machine break the record, but they smashed into oblivion. MuchDifferent CEO Christian L?nnholm had this to say on the special occasion:
?Gamers and developers from all over the world fought a never before seen massive online battle. 999 players amassed the field and despite one team being obviously more powerful, it was all great fun.?
He also commented on the company just missing their goal of 1,000 concurrent players:
?I am very proud that we could show the world such a massive game with no lag and great responsiveness. We never managed to get the full thousand though, because of the inherent unpredictability of the internet with players constantly timing out and logging out.
But it?s ok. With 999 players, we still managed to raise the unofficial PlanetSide record with 600 players. For about two hours, people could experience a smooth massive game experience.?
Congratulations to the Man vs. Machine team for such an incredible success, and to the players that participated in this world record attempt.
Would you join a thousand-player death match?
