The Pitch: You’ve read the manga, watched the anime so now it’s time to go even deeper. Take your shot at becoming the Pirate King by capturing the great treasure, One Piece, which is hidden away somewhere deep in the Grand Line. While you’re swashbuckling through the world of One Piece, you’ll meet other crew members from the original manga and recruit them to take on the dangers awaiting you in the heart of the Grand Line. In addition to that you’ll also learn a host of skills which can affect the way you tackle Pirate Trials, Impel Down, Grand Line Warfare, Pirate Battles and all of the different challenges this game has to offer.
The Lowdown: One Piece 2: Pirate King is a large-scale term based RPG based on the One Piece Manga and anime. It’s the sequel to the popular One Piece Online and now you’ve got the opportunity to explore a new Pirate treasure world all from the comfort of your internet browser.
How it plays: One Piece Online 2 plays a lot like Dragon Ball Z Online. You create your fighter and then put together a team of pirates to battle it out on the high seas. You can check out this quick video which shows off some gameplay and also showcases some of the different classes available such as: dark mage, swordsman, sniper, and doctor.
The Verdict: Now games like these are an acquired taste, you can see Mike’s take on Dragon Ball Z Online here and it is not…favorable. But these types of games have several things going for them. First of all you can’t beat free. And the only thing you need to play is an internet connection and a browser. No $300+ plus console or crazy gaming rig or $60 membership that lets allows you to use your own internet to play games. Also, if you’re a fan of the series then it just gives you another way to explore the lore and the characters you already love. Yeah, I’m talking to you guy driving the Nissan with the Luffy bumper sticker.
