ARK: Survival Evolved has amassed a massive following since its original release on Steam and with thousands upon thousands of eager players, an Early Access game can only include so much content. However, developers Studio Wildcard are clearly prepared for such requests as today they announced the release of a set of simplified modding tools – allowing the ARK: Survival Evolved community to begin adding their own custom content to the online dinosaur survival MMO.
The ARK Dev Kit, which is now available to download through the Steam Tools section of your library, is a simplified version of the Unreal Engine 4 Editor that has been compiled specifically for ARK, giving players a streamlined process of creating Mods & Maps for ARK: Survival Evolved – utilizing the popular Steam Workshop as an easy-to-use and navigate uploading platform.
While this first ARK Dev Kit release doesn’t expose the core C++ game source code, it does contain all of the editable source data and files that will allow the community to edit maps, create new blueprints and additional class options. Whether the community chooses to work on introducing new items, weapons, improving AI behavior, or remapping trees and shrubbery, it’s sure to make the coming weeks and months very exciting for fans of the game.
