A recent Twitter post from Sony Online Entertainment’s Linda Brasse could spell trouble for fans of DC Universe as SEO layoffs are revealed. Sony Online Entertainment, publishers of popular titles such as PlanetSide 2 and the highly anticipated EverQuest Next, have failed to meet expectations with recent launches of Dragon’s Prophet and Wizardry Online. The exact nature of the layoffs was uncertain until an individual spotted this post on the official DC Universe Online forums:
Today we announced a reduction in our workforce at SOE. As a company,
our goal is to focus on our core expertise of MMO games and as part of
these efforts, we had to make the difficult decision to eliminate
positions to help reduce costs, streamline our employee base and
strategically align resources towards our current portfolio of games and
upcoming slate of MMOs, including EverQuest Next Landmark and EverQuest
Next. We deeply value our employees and are grateful for all they?ve
contributed to our company and games. They will be missed by colleagues
and friends, and we wish them well in the future. Out of respect for our
employees, we request that you do not discuss personnel matters on our
forums.
Although officially the layoffs only seem to affect the crew behind DC Universe Online, it would not be surprising to hear of further layoffs in the near future. EverQuest Next was massively impressive during its first showcase and it appears SOE want to get their biggest guns behind it.
Update: Our very own originaldudegamerguy noticed that the same forum post was made across all of SOE’s games. So we could be looking at a bigger problem than first reported.
