Hi-Rez Studios today confirmed that the first ever World Championship prize pool for the award-winning SMITE, has reached a massive milestone – stacking up at a staggering $1 million.
The increase in the prize pool is thanks to the overwhelmingly positive response from the SMITE community to the unique Odyssey program which sees unique and exciting skins and items released on a regular basis, in the build up to the World Championships. SMITE players have raised over $400,000 in additional prizes through purchases made in the in-game store in the last 7 weeks alone.
Europe’s best will battle it out on November 15th and 16th at the ESL Studio in Germany, Cologne. The winning teams will have the opportunity to compete in the World Championships being held January 2015 in Atlanta, USA. The World Championships will see 8 of the greatest SMITE teams from 5 regions around the world competing for the staggering prize pool and the rights to call themselves the SMITE World Champions.
The Chief Operating Officer of Hi-Rez Studios, Todd Harris, said:
“We are
continuously humbled by how awesome and generous the SMITE Community of
gamers is. They have really rallied to support Smite eSports, and we
look forward to seeing the prize pool continue to grow over the coming
months leading up to the SMITE World Championship.”
