Star Citizen is one of the most successful projects to ever launch on the Kickstarter platform but the overly passionate community isn’t always a good thing. Fans have shown their dedication for the upcoming science-fiction MMO title resulting in massive funding goals on a monthly basis but that passion took a turn for the worst this week following the appearance of a PlayStation 4 Devkit in the background of a video.
Somehow the community managed to come to the conclusion that the appearance of the PS4 Devkit meant the developers were abandoning the popular PC platform in favor of the recently released next-generation console from Sony.
Chris Roberts took to the official boards to alleviate concerns with the following message:
Star
Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser
platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals
to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and
technology just because they will only run on some hardware
configurations.
He also goes into detail surrounding the requirements for a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One launch, one of which involves cross-platform play and open development, unlikely if not impossible. You can check out the full post here.
