Year after year Blizzard many to meet the huge expectations placed before BlizzCon and this year was no different with a huge selection of announcements and reveals, most excitingly the upcoming first-person MMO shooter, Overwatch. Those in attendance hand the opportunity to get some hands-on time with Blizzards new title, with over 600 PC’s made available on the show floor.
Blizzard hope to deliver an accessible, fun, yet detailed game to the stagnating online shooting genre. Players will have the opportunity to pick from a variety of unique and powerful heroes, each boasting their own list of skills and abilities. Each hero conforms to traditional MMORPG archetypes as players enter the fray as offense, defense, support or tank – each with their own responsibilities on the field of battle.
[quote cite=”Mike Morhaime, CEO and Co-Founder of Blizzard Entertainment”]“Overwatch is our take on a vibrant, near-future universe with amped-up characters and action-packed team-based gameplay. With every new Blizzard game, we look at our favorite aspects of a genre and put our own spin on things. Our goal with Overwatch is to create an awesome FPS experience that’s more accessible to a much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans love.”
Although a players individual ability will play a large role in the success of the team, Blizzard are wanting to encourage well-balanced teams that communicate and experiment together – combining abilities and powers to create new and exciting effects.
Blizzard stated that the game will release “sooner than you expect” and have announced an upcoming beta test for early next year. For more information check out the official website.
