World Record of 999 Concurrent Players On a Single Map Set In MMOFPS

Back in early 2011, developers Pikkotekk wanted to set the world record for the most players on a single map, 1000 concurrent players, in an MMOFPS, all at the same time.  Fast forward to now, January 2012, where they have done that, just shy of one.  Man vs Machine was the game used, designed specifically for the record attempt.  It’s a rather simple game, players on one side as Human soldiers armed with guns, and the other side has machine walkers that look like Terminator spiders with laser beams.  The madness of the game can be seen in the video below, though the video says it was off by 7 players, the official count said that there were indeed 999 players playing at one time, beating the previous record “nearly doubling” the previous record.  I’ll say, though, this game looks incredibly fun to play.

Rift 1.7 Update Details Now Available

It?s almost time for adventure MMORPG Rift’s next big update, and this one is a doozy. You?ll find quite a few changes to the game in the form of minor tweaks as well one massive overhaul. The most important change, by far, is the addition of pre-made talent templates.
This new system is called ?Calling Purposes,? and allows you to forego the headache of moving your talents around in lieu of selecting a pre-made template. Your talents will automatically be allotted into the appropriate areas within that template as you level.
You?ll also receive a few tips about that particular build and a primer on how to efficiently play with it as your default. In the update, Trion notes that while some players may be upset by the perceived forcing of certain types of builds, the new template system makes it much easier for new players to figure out how to play, or for veteran players to try out a new class. It?s a common malady in popular MMOs ? you pick one class and stick with it for the duration of your career.
You can see the new system in action here.

What do you think of the new talent templates system?

Razer’s Naga Hex Is Built For MOBA/MMORTS Players

Razer makes some amazing products (I use many of their wares on a daily basis) and they know what gamers want, being gamers themselves.  The Razer Naga and Naga Epic mice, one being wired, the other wireless, are designed for MMORPG gamers, with 12 programmable buttons right by your thumb for skills.  Razer has a new one with 6 buttons called the Razer Naga Hex.  The Hex is aimed more at players of games like League of Legends, where you have less things that need to be quickly accessed, but still want the optimal design.  The Hex is good for people who feel that 12 may be too many buttons for their comfort, as the Hex is arranged in a hexagonal style, giving the buttons a very quick and easy to memorize layout.  The Naga Hex will be $79.99 when it comes out and is available now for pre-order on the Razer website.

Razer’s New Tablet Means MMO’s To-Go!

You ever see all those people with their tablet computers or other handheld devices and wonder why you can’t have a device that can let you play your favorite MMO on the road?  Laptops work, sure, but they can be clunky.  Tablet computers are perfect, but MMO games, and other hardcore games for that matter, don’t work on touch control alone.  Razer understands this, and that’s why they have a solution to the PC gamer with tablet-envy, and it’s codenamed Project Fiona.  Shown of at CES this week, Fiona is a tablet unlike any other.  At first glance, the strange appearance may seem odd, but when you hold it, you can feel that this is the future of true PC gaming on the go.  This version of Fiona is 0.2, while Razer says they are up to version 0.8 in their R&D labs, so take the design with a grain of salt, as the design will be far thinner (0.2 is roughly 3 iPads in size) and far more powerful.  The build quality feels sturdy and better than many tablets on the market now, despite this being a prototype.

Lord of the Rings Online Gameplay Video

This game is an epic story with  ongoing adventures, or quests, steeped with intrigue and action. These adventures begin the moment you start playing, and feature characters like Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey, and Strider, Ranger of the North; during significant events in the Epic Story, Session Play lifts you from your hero’s shoes and puts you in temporary control of a legendary character. But no matter the method of storytelling, you will always earn rewards for your developing hero.
