World of Warplanes

World of Warplanes

An exciting MMO game that you can take to the skies! The game takes place in an awesome period of history during the golden era of military aviation. World of Warplanes will continue the “war saga” launched by its predecessor, the legendary World of Tanks, and will open up the skies so you can dominate the air with your friends online.

Solstice Arena

Zynga bills Solstice Arena as the world?s first ?Speed
MOBA.? Though that?s a bit of an odd term, I can honestly say that it?s the
best way to describe this strange little game. See, Solstice Arena is a title
which kind of turns the traditional MOBA concept on its head.

There are no creeps or minion waves to farm. There?s only
one lane, and no jungle. There are no in-game levels; players have access to
all three of their champions? skills right out the door (though these abilities can be improved outside of matches by leveling up your character). Each champion is
limited to six items: armor, a helm, an accessory, a main-hand, an off-hand,
and boots. You can also choose to play the whole game using a controller.

The end result is a game which ? though one can see the very
vague similarities to games like League of Legends ? is effectively a black
sheep of its genre. Matches are short, chaotic and ? perhaps surprisingly ? a
hell of a lot of fun. Hey, this is Zynga we?re talking about. They?ve seen
better days.

Aside from items, characters progress by gathering a number
of different elements which appear scattered around the battlefield. Each
element is tied to a particular stat ? Sun, for example, reduces your
cooldowns, while Earth is tied to your attack damage. Each champion has one or
two ?core? elements to which the damage of their abilities is linked.

The map itself consists of two bases, each guarded by three
towers. These towers can dish out quite a bit of damage, but there?s a catch ?
they?ll only fire if a friendly champion is alive nearby. It?s the same deal
with the bases: eliminate the opposing team, and you?ve probably got a free
structure.

These two bases are separated by a central platform linked
by two bridges and surrounded by a river which slows anyone that walks on it,
and on which a chest spawns that grants a large gold bonus to the team that
captures it. The end result is that the center of the map forms into something
of a choke-point, as well as a hot-spot of conflict: this?ll probably be where
you?ll be spending most of your time when you aren?t defending or dead.

The champion pool is?reasonably varied, but it?s clear Zynga
drew on inspiration from quite a few sources. For example, the first champion I
unlocked ? Hanhock ? is oddly similar to League of Legends? Garen in
play-style, right down to a spinning attack (which the developers have cheekily
named ?spin to win.?) That said, every character I?ve seen so far has its own
distinct play-style, strengths, and weaknesses.

Now, given that this is a free-to-play, how the game manages
player payments is every bit as important as how it plays. I?m happy to report
that Solstice Arena actually man

ages a better job of the business model than
many of Zynga?s other titles. While saving up to unlock new characters is a bit
of a grind, the game never really pressures you directly to spend real money on
anything (though there are a few skins you could purchase, if you feel the
need). That’s definitely a welcome change from many of the money-grubbing titles we’ve been seeing with increasing frequency of late.

You can grab Solstice Arena either on Steam or through the game’s website

[/review]Guardians of Middle Earth is a fantasy themed MOBA style game derived from Middle-earth and The Lord of the Rings series with various tie-ins to the book and film series. The game was originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles and was one of the first MOBAs for consoles. Guardians of Middle Earth is now being released on the PC on August 29th, 2013.

The game incorporates the standard elements of your typical MOBA like Dota 2 or League of Legends, there is a strong emphasis on working together to take down the enemy opponents and their base. At launch there will be 36 iconing ‘Guardians’ of Middle Earth, each with their own abilities and strengths. You will be able to play as your favorites from the series like Gandalf, Sauron Radagast and Arathorn.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune

Pirates: Tides of Fortune is a free to play, browser based Pirate plundering game where you will breed life into your own civilization by collecting resources and constructing buildings. I know you’ve heard that whole line before, and yes, Pirates: Tides of Fortune is much like many of Kabam’s previous titles, but this particular MMORTS title adds a huge amount of production value that is not normally seen in this free to play genre. For one, the music / animations / voiceover work is very well done. It’s not often that you get full voice-over tutorials in a game such as this, and although most of you will probably skip right over it, knowing that they spent the time on these details means a lot of players who plan on playing the game more than just casually.

Of course there are some things about the game that leave something to be desired. The combat is pretty stale, and it’s hard to get a great feeling of accomplishment when you only simply tell your troops to attack, but don’t actually get a chance to command them. Also, like most city-sim games, as you level up, the building times increase greatly, which will often-times hamper the amount of time you get to actually play, and are spent time waiting. But that’s also the beauty of the genre, you are not locked in to playing one RTS game, in-fact i’m usually in 4-5 different games and can switch between them depending on when I have some resources / time to spend.

All in all, this is a very high quality RTS game that players of the genre will find enjoyable. The game can start off a bit slow, but as you venture through the tutorial and set out on your own, you’ll find a great experience.

Infinite Crisis

Infinite Crisis

Infinite Crisis is a free to play MOBA from Turbine that gives players a chance to use their favorite superheroes from the DC Multiverse in a fast paced arena styled combat game.  Use the most iconic DC heroes like Batman, Spiderman, The Green Lantern, Catwoman and more to take out your opponent!

There are many options out there in terms of MOBAs and while they all offer a similar base-style of gameplay, what Infinite Crisis does differently is creates an evolving story crafted in collaboration with DC Entertainment.  Throughout the game you will discover new characters inspired by the worlds of the DC Multiverse as you confront the shadowy force that threatens to destroy you.  Every battle counts as you team up with other players to determine your fate and gain rank through each and every battle to determine who is the best.

Another unique addition to Infinite Crisis that other MOBAs cannot lay claim to is their destructible environments.  Players are actually able to grab items from the surrounding area like cars or walls and use them to your advantage.  Want a quicker route to the enemy?  Destroy a wall to make sure your team can gank them from behind.  But be careful, that wall is now permanently destroyed and the enemy can also use it to their advantage.  With a deep roster of heroes already included, and the inclusion of many more as the game gets updated, Infinite Crisis has something to offer both hardcore DC fans and fans of the MOBA genre.

ANNO Online

ANNO Online

ANNO Online is not your typical ANNO game, so for fans of the serious, this may be a turn-off. But what Ubisoft and Blue Byte have created here is a pretty fun time-consuming browser game that will keep you entertained for hours. One thing you’ll immediately notice about this city-sim-builder is that it’s not like most of the MMORTS games out there, due mostly to the fact that there is no multiplayer combat. In fact, besides the global chat from players, that seem to usually be eager to help mind you, there is no contact needed with other players, and of course, no combat.

In ANNO Online you will start with a small settlement with a singular house. Throughout the game you will build larger houses, earn more income, build up resources by mining, cutting and milling and use that to then, construct larger communities. There’s a little more to it than that however, you will need to entertain your citizens and give them basic necessities. The game will start off rather easy, with plenty of quests to guide you along your way, but as the game progresses, it gets increasingly more complex. You’ll need to expand your city and juggle resources across multiple cities on different islands. Having to deal with ship transport, supply and demand and of course, the unhappy citizens.

[/review]Marvel Heroes is a free to play MMORPG developed by Gazillion Entertainment. [/review]Invincible Armada is a free to play MMORTS that you can play in your browser. The game is developed by Neowiz and published by Kabam. Although the game doesn’t add a huge amount of innovation to the RTS genre, there are definitely some features and gameplay elements that may make this browser MMORTS better than the one you are currently playing.

You will begin the game with a short tutorial that will introduce some basics for you. What you learn in the tutorial is invaluable, and i’d recommend taking advantage of what you learn to better your fleet in the long run. The game uses resources and currencies that help you along your journey, as well as help with upgrading and adding parts to your ship. Your ship is the key to battling and questing, you’ll want to upgrade it and keep it in good working order, as without a ship, you’re pretty much dead in the water.

Throughout your journey you will upgrade your character with different stats and skills that help you in combat, you will visit different city ports where you can interact with the people and take quests, you will discover different parts of the world using World Maps and find new places to explore. Along with PvP there are options to build up friendships and build allies that can help you along your journey.

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is an action-RPG and tower defense game rolled into one. Developed by Ubisoft, The Mighty Quest takes players on two completely different paths as your main goal of collecting treasure and experience plays out. The game takes a light-hearted approach while players construct castles with deadly traps and monsters to protect your castle from deadly looters, while letting you take on other players castles in search for you own fortunes.

The game is split into two parts. On the offensive side you will venture into other players castles and try to get to the end by blasting through enemies and traps that they have laid out for you. This part of the game is more a traditional hack ‘n slash style like Diablo. Your character will gain experience and loot once, and if, you complete the castle, where you can then rate the experience.

On the defensive side you will create your own castle much like a tower defense game. Choose traps and monsters along with the areas that they roam as you try to build an impenetrable fortress. Your goal is to protect the loot at the end of your castle, you do this by trying to lay out castle out as difficult as possible.
