Custom DescriptionMMO Attack has covered some great strategy games in the past. Early this month we tackled the Top 10 Best Tactics MMOs, and before that we handled the Top 10 Best MOBAs. Sadly, those two lists were fit to a specific genre. Many of the games you will see making another appearance on this list, but there are also a few new additions that couldn’t be ignored when discussing online strategy games.
The goal of video games has always been to give people activity, providing an adventure that they could never take in real life. Decades later we find ourselves at the turning point of competitive online gaming. There are plenty of online games giving people the action filled experience they are looking for. No genre has made the eSports scene quite as possible as ? massive online battle arenas. This week?s decuple MMO domination takes a stab at the many games in the MOBA genre.

Heroes of Newerth (HoN), developed by S2 Games, is a multiplayer battle arena game that was released in May of 2010 and made free-to-play in July of 2011. The game finds heavy inspiration from Warcraft III’s custom map Defense of the Ancients.
The game pits two opposing teams against each other by placing them at opposite ends of the map and tasking them with claiming the opponent’s base. Each player, in control of a single hero from a top-down perspective, must navigate and fight their way through the enemy army and their defense towers in order to destroy the primary structure located at the opposing base. ‘Creeps’ are spawned every 30 seconds for each team to assist with the battle.
Experience is earned for being nearby when an enemy is killed and is used to level up the player and his/her four abilities. Gold can also be earned through battle to purchase various items.
The game tends to be fairly competitive and the learning curve can be a turn off for some players. That being said, those willing to take the time to learn the game and progress their character will find the experience extremely rewarding.

S2 Games has announced the release of updated Heroes of Newerth clients for both Linux and Mac users.
Heroes of Newerth is looking to distinguish itself in the already-crowded multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre. To compete with the huge and wildly-popular titles such as League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth went free-to-play last year. But now, with Dota 2 just itching to be released into the MOBA free-to-play slugfest, Heroes of Newerth is taking the plunge and making all of its heroes free-to-own as of July 20th.
