Elder Scrolls Online – ZeniMax’s Introduction Video

ZeniMax Online Studios has released an introduction video for its upcoming MMORPG, The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). The video highlights many of the basic features of the game, ranging from character creation, to questing, to PvP. We could go in depth here, but it might just be better to let the video speak for itself.

Besides a handful of screenshots, this is the public’s first glimpse into Elder Scrolls Online and how it looks in action. According to ZeniMax, the game promises to uphold The Elder Scrolls’ legacy by featuring a deep, fleshed out RPG experience while also incorporating and redefining the MMO as we know it.

The video shares a wealth of valuable information, but with the game still in alpha, there is much left for us to find out before its release in 2013. For more information, read our hands-on preview here and be sure to keep up with MMO ATK for up-to-date news and coverage on ESO — one of next year’s biggest games.

Zombie Pandemic (ZP) is all about content — something that Pixel Pandemic Games delivers on in full force. The game boasts over 8,000 locations spanning three different maps, 500 weapons and 150 zombie types. All of this comes to you 100% free-to-play.

ZP is a text-based browser game which requires more thought than the standard run-and-gun zombie games currently on the market. Every action in the game requires the use of Action Points. Theses points, which refill at a set rate over time, are used to navigate to new locations, attack enemies and to loot found goods. Players must plan their moves carefully so as to not find themselves stranded in a zombie hot spot.

Various NPC factions are also scattered about, offering a safe place of rest and an opportunity to purchase new items and sign up for missions. While experience from battle is used to level up your character and their customizable traits, various NPCs also offer training sessions to give your stats an extra boost for fighting the zombie hoard.

Combat is a turn-based system based on stats. To add depth to the battles, various components such as distance from target and weaponry factor in to deal an amount of damage that corresponds to each unique scenario.

The free-to-play zombie game features a top-down perspective of different blocks of the city. All the visuals are fully illustrated giving great detail and style, and every item is examinable. Zombie Pandemic offers an MMO experience that is vastly different than your typical MMO which should serve as a breath of fresh air for most zombie apocalypse gamers.

[/review]Pirates of the Burning Sea is a 3D Fantasy MMORPG that takes place in 1720 in the middle of a huge colonial battle for ultimate control over the entire Caribbean.  In the game you choose to be an officer in the navy of either Spain, France or England.  Or, maybe you want to become a clever freetrader, or plunder for your nation?s flag as a privateer, or even wreak havoc on all of the above as a pirate of the shadowy Bretheren.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is such a well made game that it’s surprising that not more people play it.  There is a real sense of adventure on the high sees.  And

Dead Frontier

Dead Frontier

Welcome to the dead frontier. Caused by a pharmaceutical drug gone wrong, the world is left in a state of chaos with few survivors. It is now up to the players to work together or individually to survive the zombie apocalypse and preserve the human race.

Players customize their avatar through the selection of a profession (class) which can range from Police Officer (stat-boost class) to Scientist (production class) and so much more.  From there it will be up to the player to work alone or as a group to traverse Fairview City to complete a wide variety of missions. Besides a zombie outbreak, players must also contend with the clans that dominate the city — some out to help, others out to harm. Outposts are scattered throughout the city to act as safe houses to take a break or to do some business.

Dead Frontier is a free-to-play browser based MMORPG that features top-down gameplay with fully 3D graphics that serve to heighten the tension. Players can expect a steep learning curve and plenty of deaths to begin with, but experience gained from killing zombies levels up players quickly. Those willing to push through will find an extremely enjoyable survival experience that offers a nice change of pace from other MMO worlds.

Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes from BioWare offers an extreme, fast-paced experience which focuses purely on PvP combat. Based off the popular Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Wrath of Heroes drops the quests and places players in the arena.

Three teams of six players are pit against each other with the ultimate goal of crushing the opposition. Players have a selection of 10 different heroes to choose from which players can swap between mid-match to optimize circumstances. New spells and moves can be unlocked as characters progress via each character’s skill tree.

With a look that is reminiscent of the World of Warcraft series, this MOBA boasts quick, high intensity games with a variety of gametypes including Capture the Flag and classic Deathmatch. Don’t let the gorgeous graphics fool you, this game offers as brutal a beating as any game out there. Players who don’t pay attention or lack the required skill could easily be swallowed up in the chaos.

Rise of Immortals (RoI) by Petroglyph Games is a 3D, top-down multiplayer battle arena game in which players chose an Immortal to utilize in battle against other characters. While sticking close in formula to other MOBA style games, RoI sets itself apart through a number of elements: the social structure and progression systems being the most notable.

After selecting an Immortal, players are dropped into a social hub world where they can chat, shop, show off their character and view leaderboards. Games are initiated through this hub world and players are returned to it upon completion of their game. This offers a friendly change of pace from the menus and chat rooms of other games for those looking to have a more personal experience with teammates and opponents.

The game also features persistent character progression. Instead of an account-based leveling system, as players gain experience, they are able to customize a persistent skill tree through which they can progress their character in the way they see fit. These unlocked unique abilities stay consistent from match to match.

While players are given the option to participate in PvP matches of up to five players per team, those less confident in their skill can build their character through the PvE system as well. This presents a great opportunity to try out new abilities or gain more experience before moving on to the more competitive world of PvP.

This game is no longer playable. It was closed to give way to Battle for Graxia.

Heroes of Newerth (HoN), developed by S2 Games, is a multiplayer battle arena game that was released in May of 2010 and made free-to-play in July of 2011. The game finds heavy inspiration from Warcraft III’s custom map Defense of the Ancients.

The game pits two opposing teams against each other by placing them at opposite ends of the map and tasking them with claiming the opponent’s base. Each player, in control of a single hero from a top-down perspective, must navigate and fight their way through the enemy army and their defense towers in order to destroy the primary structure located at the opposing base. ‘Creeps’ are spawned every 30 seconds for each team to assist with the battle.

Experience is earned for being nearby when an enemy is killed and is used to level up the player and his/her four abilities. Gold can also be earned through battle to purchase various items.

The game tends to be fairly competitive and the learning curve can be a turn off for some players. That being said, those willing to take the time to learn the game and progress their character will find the experience extremely rewarding.
