Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn Producer Defends P2P

Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn Producer Naoki Yoshida told GamesIndustry in a recent interview that the pay-to-play subscription model is the only way to support the development of AAA MMORPG’s and that developers only switch to the free-to-play alternative to make a “quick buck”.

The last large-scale Elder Scrolls Online beta event for the
PC and Mac will take place this weekend, from March 14th through the
16th.  The news was partially
leaked via Twitter and confirmed via several sites who are giving away beta
keys starting this morning, like .. MMOAttack.com!  That’s right kids, we were given a thousand
keys for the final beta weekend, you can find the link to those keys below, or
via the home-page on our website.  I know
many of you have already partaken in a beta weekend event, in which case you
will not need a key, but if you’ve missed out on any of the previous
opportunities, we have you covered!

Eager WildStar fans spotted a potential release date leak
today after gamerzines.com published an article containing a video that
apparently labeled June 3rd as the official release date.  The article was removed within minutes, but
of course, the Google Spiders managed to find the cached content.  The video in question has been removed, so
there’s no way to check the validity of the claim, but we can probably expect
to hear something from NCSoft regarding the rumors soon.  At least we hope!

Exciting news was announced today from a brand new team of
developers who are creating a “badass new sandbox RPG”.  This new studio called Citadel Games, which
includes developers who worked on games like Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot
and Warhammer, will be creating their sandbox RPG with the name Shards.  There is very little information about
Shards, other than that they plan on delivering a better playing experience
with an ever-expanding universe, deep lore and dynamic environments.  A teaser trailer was released that shows next
to nothing, no seriously go watch it, it’s about as pointless as the Polar
Bears in LOST.

If you’re
still struggling to make the captain’s chair in Star Trek Online, then maybe
this weekend can be a chance for you to make up some ground.  Cryptic Studios has announced a huge
experience boost that begins today and runs through Monday March 10th.  You will see a 100% increase in exp that
extends to all activities that reward skill points and expertise.  Along with the event, players who missed the
Fleet Project will have a chance to take part in reruns which can help you upgrade
the interiors of your holdings.

Bioware has
finally announced player housing for Star Wars the Old Republic.  Since the games launch two years ago, the
community has been crying out for housing to make the cut into the game, and
although it’s taken a while, those cries have finally been heard.  Sadly, the information is incredibly limited
at this point, basically during a community event the dev team said that it’s
coming, and showed a brief video, but that was it.  Oh well, it’s not often we can get excited
about a couch.

Finally, a
leak from IGN hints at yet another Elder Scrolls Online beta weekend, which,
shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise.
Yes, we all know the game is coming out in a little under a month now,
so the developers have been banging out beta weekends at record pace.  If it were my guess, I’d think the beta
weekend would be open to anyone who has played in a previous beta, with
thousands upon thousands of keys being given out to any site that wants them,
including ones like ours .. wink wink.  I’m
assuming at this point most of you who have wanted to try ESO have played it,
and you probably don’t want to level up a character that will be wiped soon
anyways.

That’s it
guys. Thanks for watching the Daily XP. Like and subscribe to MMOAttack games

So let’s say you’re playing your favorite MMO, you’ve
leveled up a few characters and you want to try out that new .. bard class ..
that everyone is talking about.  You
re-roll, pick an awesome new name like, Grangafor and you set out on your
journey.  But, oh god, now you’ve gotta
run through all the newbie quests again, learning the ‘story’ about your
character, killing ten rats, and collecting ten rat butts, like you have for
the past 5 re-rolls.  Never fear though,
Zenimax Online Studios may have the answer to what ails you in The Elder
Scrolls Online.  Now, it’s not confirmed
yet, but some information on a new update has surfaced with some changes on the
PTS server.  The Reddit user found an NPC
that completes all quests, saving you from having to do them every-time you
start a new character.  There are other
changes as well, there always are, you can find them at mmoatk.com.

Now we have a tale of two Kickstarter campaigns.  One, a massive success with millions of
dollars raised, the other, well .. not so much of a success.  OK, so we start with Star Citizen, who took
to Kickstarter back in September 2013 to ask for a measly 500,000 to start up
their space combat and exploration MMO.
As we sit, about 6 months later, the company has just surpassed 39
million dollars.  And no that’s not a
typo.  With the new stretch goal reached,
a brand new star system is being added to the game, which was voted on by you,
the users.  The next stretch goal
however, is the one everyone is talking about, it will give the developers the
tools to utilize a new technology that will allow for entire planets to be
created dynamically, offering an infinite array of possibilities when players
explore the Star Citizen world.  I think
they’ll hit that, don’t you?

Visionary Realms would love to be coming up with stretch
goals when they reach the 39 million dollar range.  And who knows, maybe they will at some point,
but not now.  Pantheon: Rise of the
Fallen, the MMORPG venture by Brad McQuaid, of EverQuest glory, failed to reach
its Kickstarter goal of $800,000.  The
developers removed some restrictions on the campaign to try to reach the goal
on the final day, but alas, came up short.
So what do they do now?  Well, the
team is not giving up on the game, hardly, they will probably try to work
harder now to get the game finished.
They have started up a funding page on their own website, that has the
same tiers and goals as their Kickstarter page.
It’s important to note, if you were one of the original pledges on
Kickstarter, to go pledge again, as your support was not charged.

Eight Reasons The Elder Scrolls Online Will Be Awesome

As you’re all no doubt aware, The Elder Scrolls Online – currently in open beta – will be launching in a few months or so. In light of both the new release date and all the hype surfacing around it, I’ve decided that, over the next two weeks, I’ll be looking at all the reasons to look forward to it…and all the reasons we shouldn’t.
