Escape from Tarkov, Pantheon, Rising Waters, Motiga and more! | The XP 2.12.2016

What’s up Attackers! Kirk here with Attack Gaming, bringing you the latest and greatest in the world of MMO gaming news for the week ending February 12th, 2016. There was actually a ton of stuff going on this week, although most of it is pretty bland, or at least, not super interesting, like the revenue reports from companies like Neon, Activision/Blizzard, and NCSoft, or Hi-Rez opening up a new European Office in the UK, and Motiga layoffs. Actually, let’s hit on Motiga after the break. The XP starts now!

Motiga, the studio behind the yet unreleased Windows 10 and Xbox One multi-platform MOBA Gigantic has announced another round of layoffs. On Febuary 9, the studio said that it had to layoff a significant percentage of its staff. The official blog post claims the layoffs are “temporary” and can be reversed if ongoing talks with potential investors pan out. Which essentially means, give us more money please, with a shit-eating grin. Gigantic has been in development since 2010 and has only now started to open up to the public. The game’s NDA was lifted just this week, and of course we got a first impressions video up for it minutes after the NDA went way, GO US, but the Closed Beta remains invite-only. Its not surprising that Motiga has run into financial trouble after nearly six years of operation without a shipped product. What’s unfortunate is how close the studio was to the finish line when it stumbled. The MOBA market as matured since 2010, with many new entrants like Smite and Heroes of the Storm filling the cracks left by League of Legends and Dota 2. Even if the studio can’t raise additional funds, Gigantic is just too close to being finished to go dark. I’m hopeful that either Motiga or someone else will pick up the pieces, put them together, and finally ship Gigantic.

Been a bit since we’ve heard anything about Visionary Realms and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. Actually, last time I remember filling my mouth with that game is when they closed their Kickstarter in February 2014 after not being able to meet it’s nearly $1 million goal. But I digress. Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has been promising to take us back to the days of old when teamwork was necessary at all times. That usually means that there must be a solid healer class somewhere in the mix. Enter the Cleric, which was announced and teased this week by the team. In the lore, the Clerics “bind themselves directly to the ancient directives of their Order, guided by the written wisdom of the Celestials of ages past.” Clerics are healers without equal. They can also buff the defense of allies by using “powerful signets, potent writs, and ethereal armors.” They wear heavy plate armor or “plate-woven raiment,” using “one-handed blunt” weapons. The use of staves has largely diminished so that they can “carry their large tomes into battle.” You can find more information about the Cleric on the official website, but the worst part is they only have one damn image of the Cleric, so I can’t even go in and make a 30 second video with cheesy music and some moving pictures to poach some YouTube views. Lame!

Escape From Tarkov made quite the entrance when it was first announced back in November. Created by Battlestate Games—the creators of Contract Wars—Escape From Tarkov is promising something different than the current shooter genre provides. In it, you complete missions for one of two warring military factions and ultimately aim to escape the city of Tarkov. There’s been only one problem as of yet—we don’t really know all that much about the game. The developers though re hoping to change that and are slowly tossing out a set of video developer diaries. The first diary covers the lengths the team has gone to to ensure realism in the handling and sound of guns, as well as motion capture, procedural animation, and several other features. It’s an interesting watch and it gets the point across that they are aiming for authenticity. You can watch the video below via the link below and check out the Beta sign-ups are ongoing on the official website, escape from tarkov dot com.

Blade and Soul’s first major content patch, Rising Waters, is now live. The expansion challenges players to face the Blackram pirates once again in the new 4-player Bloodshade Harbor instance. Players who want more of a challenge can take on the 24-player version of the instance, Nightshade Harbor. The first seven floors of another dungeon, Mushin’s Tower, are now available. This is a single-player Heroic Dungeon that will require players to face more difficult challenges floor after floor for a chance at increasingly better rewards. You begin the tower by choosing an opponent from six different opponents, each with their own fighting style. If successful, you must then pick another opponent to face before moving on to the next floor. The full list of challenges can be found on the Rising Waters mini-site. The first five Hongmoon Levels have also been added. These levels allow advancement beyond the current level cap of 45. Each Hongmoon Level will grant players more skill and stat points.

En Masse Entertainment announced today that they will be publishing C4M’s tactical, competitive RTS Battleplans on PC and mobile later this spring. Battleplans is a different kind of RTS that “splits offensive battles and defensive planning into two distinct phases of the game.” Players are tasked with laying siege to NPC or player-controlled territories that are then defended with “comprehensive defense strategies.” An assortment of heroes and units are available to aid in accomplishing this goal. The developers are already boasting “simple, intuitive controls” that allow ease of use and quick decision making. En Masse CEO Chris Lee stated that “Battleplans is a great strategy game for players interested in actually controlling the units they send into combat. It provides engaging gameplay but isn’t bogged down by micromanagement.” A Closed Beta for the PC version will be held later this month before launching on Android, iOS, and PC later this spring. You can sign up for access on the official website.

Funcom appears to be trying to usher in a new era of Anarchy Online. There’s the new rendering engine. There’s a new website. And now there’s the new Rubi-Ka region, The Reck. The Reck is part of a content update that went live this week. You can enter the region through Tir and Omni-1 Trade The primary purpose of the zone is to provide players with “camps and encounters” that help them level level their characters through “title levels 4 and 5.” The region will be accessible to anyone, but dailies will be restricted to characters in the level 90-170 range. Encounters in this region are built for players in the level 90-220 range. Many of the camps will require players to explore to find them.

That’s all I’ve got for you today. Toss this video a like and a subscribe and i’ll see you guys next week! Ciao!

So let’s say you’re playing your favorite MMO, you’ve
leveled up a few characters and you want to try out that new .. bard class ..
that everyone is talking about.  You
re-roll, pick an awesome new name like, Grangafor and you set out on your
journey.  But, oh god, now you’ve gotta
run through all the newbie quests again, learning the ‘story’ about your
character, killing ten rats, and collecting ten rat butts, like you have for
the past 5 re-rolls.  Never fear though,
Zenimax Online Studios may have the answer to what ails you in The Elder
Scrolls Online.  Now, it’s not confirmed
yet, but some information on a new update has surfaced with some changes on the
PTS server.  The Reddit user found an NPC
that completes all quests, saving you from having to do them every-time you
start a new character.  There are other
changes as well, there always are, you can find them at mmoatk.com.

Now we have a tale of two Kickstarter campaigns.  One, a massive success with millions of
dollars raised, the other, well .. not so much of a success.  OK, so we start with Star Citizen, who took
to Kickstarter back in September 2013 to ask for a measly 500,000 to start up
their space combat and exploration MMO.
As we sit, about 6 months later, the company has just surpassed 39
million dollars.  And no that’s not a
typo.  With the new stretch goal reached,
a brand new star system is being added to the game, which was voted on by you,
the users.  The next stretch goal
however, is the one everyone is talking about, it will give the developers the
tools to utilize a new technology that will allow for entire planets to be
created dynamically, offering an infinite array of possibilities when players
explore the Star Citizen world.  I think
they’ll hit that, don’t you?

Visionary Realms would love to be coming up with stretch
goals when they reach the 39 million dollar range.  And who knows, maybe they will at some point,
but not now.  Pantheon: Rise of the
Fallen, the MMORPG venture by Brad McQuaid, of EverQuest glory, failed to reach
its Kickstarter goal of $800,000.  The
developers removed some restrictions on the campaign to try to reach the goal
on the final day, but alas, came up short.
So what do they do now?  Well, the
team is not giving up on the game, hardly, they will probably try to work
harder now to get the game finished.
They have started up a funding page on their own website, that has the
same tiers and goals as their Kickstarter page.
It’s important to note, if you were one of the original pledges on
Kickstarter, to go pledge again, as your support was not charged.

Transcript:
So Brad McQuaid first began teasing his new MMO in December
last year, and released the Kickstarter for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen in
January.  Despite the hugely positive
response he’s had thus far, the campaign is still very short of its lofty goal
of $800,000.  As we stand today, 9 days
until the end of the campaign, they are not even at the halfway point, but Brad
has let supporters know that whether or not the Kickstarter is successful, the
game will be built.  After the
Kickstarter his team will set up a website with ways to pledge and re-pledge
and are looking for other investors to help take the project to completion.

It will be a difficult task to follow up the release of
Superman, but Star Sapphire might just be the right champion to do it.  After Superman’s release last month in Infinite
Crisis, Star Sapphire, the champion of love, will join the ranks as a deadly
blaster later this month.  She will be a
long-range damage dealer with the ability to push lanes and take down
objectives, while having the ability to summon her Predator, which is a pink
alien-like creature, who has strong auto-attack and the ability to root.  Star Sapphire will be available in-game on
February 26th.

Lastly, Aeria Games today announced the release of the first
major content update for its free to play fantasy MMORPG, Aura Kingdom.  With the most successful launch in the company’s
history, the new patch hopes to attract new players with a brand new class, a
new raid, and new end-game dungeon content.
The new Brawler class brings the game up to 9 playable classes.  The brawler is a melee specialist, with a
variety of deadly blows using his sharp claw-like weaponry that call upon the powers
of the earth and the sky.

Masthead Studios today revealed information about their
upcoming Valentine’s Day celebration.  If
you’re like me, and will be spending Valentine’s day alone .. sad face .. then
at least you’ll be able to kick some robot ass in their free to play MMOTPS,
Guns and Robots.  Beginning February 10th
a new game mode, which is like a VIP mode you’ve seen in other shooters, will
allow players to rack us credits in order to unlock a Valentine’s Day Reward,
which is a new weapon that charms opponents into feeling completely helpless.  A second event, the ‘Heartbreaking’ contest
will supply a large amount of credits to the victors.

Today Joymax announced their largest patch in history for
Digimon Masters Online.  I know you’re
thinking, yeah I don’t care how large it is, just give us more mounts.  Well, that’s what you get!  Two new mounts include Chaosmon and the
Dramon Paladin, both of which are the fastest the game has seen.  The update also brings new Digivolutions, a
new Lucemon Satan Burst mode and the continuation of the Free Sweets event
through February.

Lastly, Visionary Realms, the San Diego based developer
headed by Brad McQuaid of EverQuest fame, has announced the latest class for
their ‘still-in-kickstarter’ MMO, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.  The Enchanter is a utility class who is a
master of crowd control, a proficient buffer, stunner, mezzer and charmer.  The Enchanter will specialize in assisting
groups through stuns and mesmerizing multiple enemies, while also being able to
manipulate charmed enemies behaviors and commanding them as hiw or her
own.  Unfortunately, like all of
Pantheons class updates, no photos can be found, only a symbol of sorts, which
kind of harshes my buzz.

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is the latest high fantasy MMO from one of the original EverQuest creators, Brad McQuaid. The game will feature a classic take on the epic adventure MMO, developed by gamers who aren’t afraid to take risks and present challenges. There will be a heavy focus on character development, an immersive world and cooperation with groups and guilds being at the forefront of how the game plays out.

The game was only recently announced via Brad McQuaid twitter account, and the Kickstarter campaign began in January 2014. Those looking for more information have plenty of time to do so, as the game is not expected to be released until 2017.

Visit all the Pantheon Rise of the Fallen tags on MMO ATK for the latest about the game.

Transcript:
We’ve discussed Pantheon quite a bit in the past few months,
since the first mention about the game from Brad McQuaid’s Twitter account.  Now we finally have the opportunity to pledge
support and really get some details about his latest MMO project.  The Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen Kickstarter
campaign has kicked off, with the initial goal of $800,000, up to stretch goals
at just under $7 million.  But forget
about the money part, this is the first chance we’ve had to learn more about
the game, other than a few random photos.
Here’s some highlights.  An MMO
for players wanting a challenge, traveling where and when you want in a
non-linear world, a group-focused social gameplay encouraging teamwork,
customizing classes by bonding with spirits, involved combat, and much much
more.  Check out the Kickstarter page
linked below for more.

A game we’ve never talked about, Herokon Online, hopefully
i’m saying that correctly, is a free to play browser based MMO from Silver
Style.  Today a large update with new
content invades Aventuria, highlighted by an entirely new region.  The new region brings a sequel to the popular
Blade of Destiny campaign, with 6 new types of enemies, new NPC characters and
allies.  The region Thorwall includes new
achievements and titles to go along with an increase in level cap to 45.

More shady dealings have befallen the eSports world.  We talked at length about HyuN earlier this
month about not getting paid his winnings in several Starcraft II
tournaments.  Now a pro League of Legend
player is taking to Reddit to explain what has been going on with his team and
owner.  Apparently the player has tried a
multitude of times to receive his payment over the last year, and has only been
run around in circles, never to receive the money won from an invent in
November 2012.  What do you guys think
about some of the shady dealings in the eSports scene?  Is it something that bothers you, or do you
think the players need to figure it out on their own.  Let us know in the comments.
