A new
developer blog post for Snail Games Black Gold Online has revealed new
information about the game dungeons and instances.  Instances are one of the main gameplay
features in Black Gold Online, and one of the most important forms of PVE and
group play.  Players will form small
bands of heroes to explore hidden passages and while taking on enemies, dodging
traps and defeating bosses.  Completing
these instances will provide players with exp and loot.  You will be able to party up with your
friends and allies, or with random players in the world using the tab on your
UI, that will also bring up a list of available instances and
descriptions.  Remember, the Black Gold
Alpha test is set to begin on March 20th!

The latest god
reveal in SMITE brings us the horror of the deep, or more affectionately known
as, a creepy ass kid who’s legs turn into snakes with the heads of warewolves.  Well, that’s not a technical name but ..
seriously, this girl is creepy!  Scylla
is a magical damage dealer with an impressive selection of CC and movement
speed abilities.  Her skills include slowing,
rooting, damaging and granting vision to her teammates.  Her ultimate sees her revealing her true
self, while becoming CC immune, gaining speed and gaining one very strong

PlanetSide 2
released an awesome new video showcasing what it’s like to be on the front
lines of the war between the three factions on Auraxis.  Typically the team at SOE take a comedic
approach in their coverage of the game, but this new video is pretty freakin’
cool!  Taking the perspective of the
soldiers, the video reveals some interesting statistics about the game, while
showing footage taken by some of their players. 
If you’re not a PlanetSide 2 player, maybe this will be enough to get
your blood pumping and have you downloading the free to play first person
shooter from Sony Online Entertainment.

The literal craziest
thing I have watched in a long time is the ReRoll announcement video that came
out today from PIXYUL. They plan to use drones to accurately map out the entire
planet to create an exact 1:1 scale replica in-game. I’m not kidding; this
really means that all areas of the Earth, urban or rural, will be accessible to
play. The first game they plan on using this technology for will be ReRoll,
which is a survival MMO with some interesting survival mechanics and an
in-depth crafting system. You’ll notice at the end of the video that they are
seeking funds to make this insanity reality, so think what you will of that. I
say check the video out anyway, it will blow your mind, I promise.

 

John Smedley, bossman
at Sony Online Entertainment, has been taunting our interests with his vague hints
of a new mystery game. He has been directing his recent tweets toward Star Wars
Galaxies players, telling them that if they are into sandbox elements of play,
they will be into this new game. There is breaking twitter evidence of Smedley
writing that the game will be revealed next month. We’ll see about that. Though
we still don’t have a name, we do know that it will not be set in a
science-fiction setting…..There are rumors that it may be a post-apocalyptic
theme, which means, say it with me, zombies.

 

Phosphor Games Studio
has announced today the full info on the latest patch to their survival MMO
Nether. Previous patches have been measly compared to this one. They’ve built
on their newly created subway system to include a tribes feature, which will
give them the option of joining 1 of 16 tribes. This includes more offensive
and defensive abilities, more loot drops, and that extra nice extra inventory
space. They’ve also made it so you can scavenge and craft, giving you the
ability to make whatever weapon want. If you play this game already though, you
may be bummed to find that they had to do an entire character wipe to balance
these new features. Bummer.

A Finnish development team, Tribe Studios, today announced
the immediate launch of the closed beta for their dramagame, Velvet
Sundown.  Velvet Sundown sees players
aboard a luxury yacht on a high seas adventure. 
At launch, 11 characters are available to play, each with their own
carefully crafted personality and background story.  Upon launch Velvet Sundown will be
accompanied by ground-breaking, text-to-speech technology, which is likely never
before seen in the free MMO genre.  OK,
so what is a dramagame?  I’m imagining a
version of The Bachelor, where all the ladies are stuck on a boat and have to
fight over one man, but then the Captain is there swabbing the decks, if you
know what I mean.  I’m winking.

A Black Desert fan site today posted an interview with the
developers Pearl Abyss, shedding some light on the progress of the russian
localization for their highly anticipated MMORPG.  The information in the article suggest they
expect a publisher to be chosen at a later date, and that they expect a
localized version will be released in Russia before both the EU and US.  So .. wait, i’m not sure what the point of
this article is.  I guess i’ll be moving
on.

We’ve talked extensively about SOE in the past week or
so.  From the shutting down of four
titles, to EverQuest Next Landmark’s Alpha and the Star Wars Galaxies mention
in the AMA last week.  Well, John Smedley
is adding a little fuel to the fire as he’s posted a twitter photo of the so
called spiritual successor to Star Wars Galaxies, and no, it has nothing to do
with Star Wars, or space or anything along those lines.  The photo is of a church, I think, and other
than that, not much else was posted. 
Could we be seeing a modern take on some of the features that made SWG
so popular at first?  Maybe.  But we will keep you updated on all the hot
gossip here.

First off, late Friday SOE made their community aware that
they were shutting down four of its titles. 
Free Realms, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Wizardry Online and
Vanguard Saga of Heroes.  The reasons for
each of the closures vary, but when it gets down to it, each game has had its
struggles recently, either with a small player-base, or the cost to keep the
game up and running, or lack of time to update. 
Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures will close up on March 31st, while
Vanguard and Wizardry end of July 31st. 

Later that day John Smedley, President of SOE took part in
an Ask Me Anything on Reddit.  He covered
questions ranging from the closures of the previous four mentioned titles as
well as gave fans something to look forward to. 
When asked if he could launch a shut-down title, he chose Star Wars
Galaxies, stating that he would do everything differently.  He followed that up with this “SWG
Players – Our next game, not announced yet, is dedicated to you.  Once we launch it, you can come
home”.  That tease along with a keen
reader on Reddit, who found an image to a trademark renewal for SWG, gives many
of us hope that there will be a new Star Wars game on the horizon.

Then, even later that day, on the EverQuest Next forums, a
community manager posted information on the all new SOE All Access Plan.  It had been hinted at in previous weeks that
SOE would put together all their games into a nice and neat package that
included all their titles, and that’s what they have done.  The SOE All Access Plan will include top-tier
membership level in all eligible SOE games. 
These games include EverQuest, EverQuest II, DC Universe Online and
PlanetSide 2, for the PC versions only, as well as the upcoming EverQuest Next
and Landmark.  Dragon’s Prophet may be
added in later.  The pass will also
include 500 monthly Station Cash, as well as a 10% discount on marketplace
purchases and exclusive promotions and offers throughout the year.  All that for $14.99, with discounts for
extended month plans.

As the alpha testing for EverQuest next Landmark draws near,
Sony Online Entertainment have published an early set of system specs to give
users the time to upgrade their machines before the event begins.  EverQuest Next has quickly become one of the
most anticipated MMO titles, so it’s important to have your rig ready to
go.  The Minimum System Requirements are
asking for the windows 64 bit operating system, an Intel i5 Dual Core or higher
and 4GB of memory.  The full specs can be
found on our website.

Earlier this month Trion Worlds announced the 7th Legion DLC
for Defiance, and today’s preview of the expansion sheds more light on what to
expect with next month’s launch.  The
most exciting additions include joining Yoshida Hiro’s 7th Legion as they march
for the Bay Area, and a recruitment kit that includes an outfit, gear and a new
title.  New weapons will also be
introduced, but unfortunately a much needed new location has not been included.

The final open house for Ubisoft’s Mighty Quest for Epic
Loot has begun and will conclude on Monday January 27th.  The final open house will give all players
complete access to the entire Mighty Quest world, include the final character,
The Mage.  This will also mark the last
chance to become a founder, which gives you access to many bonuses included in
the game.  Check it out at the mighty
