Final Eden – Defunct

Final Eden

“The world ended on December 21, 2012 in a cataclysmic event that left very few survivors. The few who survived have only recently started to rebuild on the backbone of past civilization and organized into tribes, but live in a world of anarchy. As a tribal chief, you must rebuild, defend your base from rival gangs, and assemble an army to battle for precious resources.”

What a great intro description to the game Final Eden, really makes me want to put down whatever i’m doing and give it a play!  Final Eden is a browser based real time strategy / city manager game where you must defend a small group of survivors from looters slavers and cannibals in the year 2040.

Final Eden is similar to other titles by Kabam.  Start out with a small town, build structures and armies and technologies, upgrade, advance, repeat.  The combat is automated, but you do have to strategically place your buildings and your troops, making it a little more realistic.  The game features PVP and PVE, Clans and real-time chat. The graphics are great and the gameplay is fluid and Fast.

Evony

Evony

Evony II is a 2D strategy browser MMO with a medieval setting. The game was originally launched in 2009 and it grew pretty fast through aggressive marketing and advertising on one end and classic, yet polished game elements at the other end.

In Evony II players must gather four different resources build their city, keep the population happy and in general manage this urban universe in a tycoon-like fashion. However, this is not the ultimate goal of the game, but that of conquering the world. In order to do that players must address military and diplomatic issues: build troops, make alliances and eventually make war against neighboring cities.

The game?s micro-transaction system is pretty common, but since this is at its core a PvP oriented game, the offers of the in-game store tend to make huge differences in a conflict. With the help of the game?s currency called ?cent? players can ignore the building time of a new construction, they can instantly gain extra resources and in general perform actions which gives the upper hand.

Evony II doesn?t reinvent the genre, but manages to do a nice job with the classic browser based strategy MMO recipe. The game looks good, is entertaining, and doesn?t take a lot of time to understand or play. Its only flaw is related to ?the dark side? of the free-to-play business model, a side unfortunately unavoidable especially for a browser MMO.

Pros: A good social environment with cut-throat politics.

Cons: People using bots and alternate accounts. Risk of total loss of cities/resources/heroes when left alone overnight.

Eredan

Eredan

Eredan is a social fantasy themed online trading card game MMO. Players compete against each other to become the ultimate warrior.  Your goal is to duel other players using your magical deck of cards.  Purchase boosters and wield powerful weapons and spells as you create and customize your hand.  Intense battles and tactful strategy are keys to proving to the world that you have what it takes to be the last hero standing.

Eredan takes on a medieval fantasy theme.  Players are to become heroes in a world where it?s hard to distinguish the difference between friend and foe. Creatures of darkness have begun to terrorize a land already torn apart by war, and  a leader must be forged. Using a simulation similar to the mechanics of a physical card game, players create their own deck of characters and spells to play against others in a duel to the death. Win matches, upgrade heroes, and participate in tournaments.

Although comparable to other TCG’s like Carte, this game features Facebook integration which allows users to connect with their Facebook friends or make new ones through the game. There is a wide selection of cards to collect and trade. Hundreds of different spell and weapon combinations make for thousands of unique playing styles and strategies.  Many cards are unique to certain classes and many characters providing bonus stats to different cards. Each signature hero card displays the character?s race, class, and guild. The game also features six multi-classes combining the Priest, Mage, Warrior, and Marauder class that are available as players advance.

Elvenar

Elvenar

InnoGames offers players the chance to explore an exotic fantasy world with their new city-builder game: Elvenar – The latest, strategy-MMO title was announced today with details about the game. The German developer is treading on uncommon ground with Elvenar as players have to create a flourishing city and choose between Elves or Humans as a starting race. The games’ focus lies on building and upgrading a city, but players also trade, explore the world map or have strategic turn-based fights on a 3D battlefield. Elvenar will start in the browser; mobile versions are planned. The game’s closed beta is expected to start in January 2015.

The choice between Elves and Humans influences the way the players’ cities and inhabitants look and which technologies and units are at their disposal. The Elves live and breathe magic and exist in close harmony with nature, whereas Humans are ambitious and determined engineers. “You will see some of the elvish buildings really come alive with lots of fantastical beings, like ents and golems co-existing peacefully in their cities”, explains Ulrike Kunkel, Producer of Elvenar. “The Humans on the other hand are a more technologically determined society, they focus on engineering to prevail. Our goal was to create differences in visuals and play style that make players want to try out both races at some point”, Kunkel adds.

Between managing resources, levelling up buildings and unlocking new perks, players should also pay attention to the multiplayer map. There they can interact with neighbors, scout new provinces and unlock various powerful relics by fighting NPCs. Fights take place on various battlegrounds. The strategic battles are 3D-animated, with up to 20 different monsters and unit types, which make each encounter unique and tactically deep.

Desert Operations

Desert Operations

Desert Operations is a browser based game with a modern-warfare theme in which players battle for resources and glory while boosting their political influence, create alliances and wage war. The game was developed by Playzo GmbH and there are four types of units available in game:

Infantry ? cheap and fast to produce, but have weak attack and defense values. With the exception of Navy Seals. Vehicles ? have increased attack and defense, but they are vulnerable against air attacks. Air units ? have a high penetration score, but they have a low deployment time. Water units ? they inflict great damage and have average fixed cost, but they are very expensive in research and purchasing.

In Desert Operation there are three different types of buildings which can be constructed: production buildings, military buildings and action buildings. Each building can be upgraded to increase the bonuses that it offers. The gameplay can be improved or sped up with the help of premium packages that offer instant buildings, special weapons, better weather and other features in exchange of Diamonds.

Desert Operation offers players many possibilities in creating their own country and defending it from other players. It is a good military strategy game that will keep players glued to the computer as they try to better plan the evolution of their country.

Clash of the Dragons

Clash of the Dragons

Clash of the Dragons is a free to play browser-based trading card game.  The game borrows elements from a traditional RPG and adds a new spin as a fantasy TGC.

Upon entering the game, you will be prompted to create your avatar; then you are able to freely travel across the map and spend a certain amount of energy to fight against different monsters. Winning a battle grants you various loot, experience and other rewards.

Upon entering into a battle for the first time, you will need to familiarize yourself with combat interface and dialogue boxes with different options. In Clash of the Dragons, instead of having the popularized hit points system, it is actually the amount of cards you hold in your deck determines your health.  When damage is dealt by another player or NPC, you have to discard as many cards as the damage being taken from the top of your deck. The battle ends when you are unable to draw any additiolnal cards.  There are two number displayed on each card, one determines the amount of damage the card will deal, while the other is the defense point, which will be subtracted from the amount of damage done by your opponent.

The game is relatively easy to pick up and play compared with other trading card games.  There are four class available and each one has their own primarily attribute, which determines what kind of attack will be optimal.

Battles become slightly more complicated and unpredictable at higher levels and with the introduction of buff and healing cards. Buffs can give you some sorts of status enhancement such as granting chance of inflicting critical attack, or splitting half of the damage taken. And the healing cards enable you to revive cars that have been discarded. The number of cards you can pull out from your depletion pile equals to the power of the healing card.

As a typical trading card game, Clash of the Dragons allows players to customize the deck; keeping too many melee and ranged attack cards in deck is meaningless when you play as a spellcaster. You can either purchase card packs coming with assortment of 5 random cards with coins or premium currency, or craft a specific one by using cards that appear to be useless in your deck, however, it seems that acquiring enough cards and crafting ingredients take a long time.

Besides the deck customization, there are a lot of things to do while you are outside battles. Skill points can be spent in a wide range of optional abilities to benefit players ? from increasing the maximum deck size to increasing the number of NPC?s which can be placed in one deck. Moreover, once you have accumulated enough points, you can unlock your second class, which giving you the possibility to toggle between those classes when you face-off against enemies of different powers.

Clash of the Dragons is a different and unique take on the classic trading card game.  If you are willing to try out a TGC, give this one a try.  Traditional RPG players will find elements they adore with a completely new spin.

Battlestar Galactica Online

Battlestar Galactica Online

Inspired by the TV series, Battlestar Galactica Online makes for a very good browser-based MMORPG. It was developed and published by Bigpoint and Artplant, released for open beta on February 11, 2011. The fans of the series looking for a complex plot and storyline will be quite disappointed however. The game doesn?t focus on storytelling and without a decent amount of information to back the game events up, throws the player right in the middle of a war raging between Humans and Cylons.

In Battlestar Galactica Online, the player will be able to choose from the two factions available: the Humans whose primary objective is finding a new home-planet and the Cylons, intelligent, evolving robots which now hunt their creators, the humans. After the players choose the faction, the character customization will allow them to tweak their avatars by adjusting body parts, adding battle marks and tattoos. Afterwards the player will have to decide what battle ship to control. Note that ship control is smooth, but might require an accommodation time.

ANNO Online

ANNO Online

ANNO Online is not your typical ANNO game, so for fans of the serious, this may be a turn-off. But what Ubisoft and Blue Byte have created here is a pretty fun time-consuming browser game that will keep you entertained for hours. One thing you’ll immediately notice about this city-sim-builder is that it’s not like most of the MMORTS games out there, due mostly to the fact that there is no multiplayer combat. In fact, besides the global chat from players, that seem to usually be eager to help mind you, there is no contact needed with other players, and of course, no combat.

In ANNO Online you will start with a small settlement with a singular house. Throughout the game you will build larger houses, earn more income, build up resources by mining, cutting and milling and use that to then, construct larger communities. There’s a little more to it than that however, you will need to entertain your citizens and give them basic necessities. The game will start off rather easy, with plenty of quests to guide you along your way, but as the game progresses, it gets increasingly more complex. You’ll need to expand your city and juggle resources across multiple cities on different islands. Having to deal with ship transport, supply and demand and of course, the unhappy citizens.

8realms is a browser based MMORTS game and has persistent real time strategy elements throughout. Jagex has really created a beautiful world here with 8Realms, with bright green valleys and very detailed models. The company previously developed another massively multiplayer online RTS called War of Legends, which took place in the ancient world of Chinese mythology. These guys really know how to create a true browser MMORTS that is easy to pick up and play, but can get advanced for veteran players.
