Blade 9

Blade 9

Blade 9 is a fantasy MMORPG set in the orient in a mythical world. The tale of the story revolves around 9 legendary artifacts known as “Ruin Weapons”. Legends say that long before the land and people were divided, the heavens bestowed these Ruins to the earth in order to protect it from the powers of darkness. When evil, lead by the Tyrant of the Void began its reign on the land; nine knights capable of wielding these weapons joined forces and unlocked a power so unimaginable that the land itself separated. The Tyrant of the Void was vanquished, but the remnants of the fierce battle were apparent. The knights sacrificed their lives to save the realm and the ruin weapons themselves scattered across the world.

It’s been over a millennium since these weapons have been lost. The world is an entirely different place, separated into factions; these many kingdoms now reside peacefully within their own accord. However, a malevolent King from one of the ruling kingdoms wishes to collect all 9 ruins and become the ruler of the world. His thirst for power threatens the existing peace. His tyranny must be stopped!

[/review]BlackShot is a tactical first person shooter game in the vein of Counter Strike and Call of Duty. While BlackShot does not add anything new to the genre, the maps and game types, along with ranking system definitely have a niche for many. The game features fast paced combat, along with multiple game modes that are sure to keep you entertained for hours.

The game is set in the near future, after an apocalyptic nuclear war that has spread across the whole world. As a player, you take on the role of a mercenary that is in a never-ending struggle for control. There are four character types in BlackShot, two of them are geared towards offensive firepower, and two of them are more defensive in nature. The game is mostly lobby-based, and after finding players to play with on a server you will join either the red or blue team and fight it out in modes such as: Team Death-Match, Team Flag-Match and Search and Destroy.

One of the most fun parts of the game is the progression system. Players can gain experience through playing the game and can level up to 60. Each level is represented by special icons and names. Players can also master each of the five different weapon types. Earning ranks in mastery grants you different rewards including temporary weapons, special gear in the shop and gun add-ons like scopes, masks, silencers, and golden weapons.

Blacklight Retribution

Blacklight Retribution

Blacklight: Retribution is the latest from Perfect World Entertainment.  This first person shooter mmo follows closely in gameplay formula with most of today?s blockbuster FPS titles such as Call of Duty and Battlefield series.

It is a fast paced, adrenaline pumping first person shooter based in a futuristic urban warzone. Building upon Zombie Studios? predecessor, Tango Down, Blacklight Retribution provides FPS enthusiasts with a massive arsenal of weaponry and gear ranging from bleeding edge side arms to massive mechanized Hardsuits.

Blacklight: Retribution offers 5 game modes as of right now, Domination, Team King of the Hill, Team Death Match, Free-For-All Death Match, and Capture the Flag. The maps are relatively small, allowing players to quickly spawn and get in on the action and they aren?t littered with bushes and tall grass that players can camp behind.

The game also offers players variety of choices on customizing their character?s equipment and weapons, allow player to change the looks and functionality of their futuristic combat suits and modify variety of weapons with attachments, different barrels, stocks, ammo and more. Different equipment offers different stats that compliment different styles of play, for example some gear will provide more protection at the cost of slower movement speed and vice versa, while weapon attachments and modification can improve weapon spread, damage or zoom. As players earn points in game by killing enemy players and completing objectives, more options in item customizations are made available to their characters along with different skills to choose from.

Overall the combat is satisfying, the graphics look top-notch,  the classes and the weapons are awesome and the maps are fun.  If you are in to Call of Duty and Battlefield then this game is for you!  Best part of all ..  It’s free!

Black Gold Online

Black Gold Online

Black Gold Online is a genre-blending, free-to-play MMORPG from developer and publisher Snail Games. Black Gold Online features a deeply-imagined game world on the brink of political collapse between the two dominating factions, the steam-powered Kingdom of Isenhorst and the high-fantasy, magical land of the Erlandir Union. Greed over the rare and increasingly valuable resource, Black Gold, has caused an era of tension and unease, a sentiment which places strain on the already shaky relationship between the land of Montel’s two nations. It is up to you, the player, to choose a side and take up arms to help decide the success, or at very least, the survival of your kind.

Black Gold Online features an expansive world to explore and a diverse population of conflicting interests. Six races are available to choose from (four currently, two coming soon), each with a political and moral alignment. Depending on the race chosen, players will be offered a selection of classes from a total pool of 12. Each class has its own story to tell and a unique path to follow, ranging from the fiery Pyromancer to the technologically inclined Spectromancer.

Whether more in tune with the powers of nature or imaginative creations, players can expect fast-paced action combat in both the game’s PvE and open PvP battles. Dynamic events will play a large part in the living, ever-varied world of Montel, with a staggering possibility of 3,000 unique and random events for players to participate in.

Though each race and class is powerful in their own right, neither side would be of comparable strength without their selection of carriers: Black Gold Online’s version of combat-ready mechs and Warbeasts. Players will take to land and air in heavily armored machines of death or equally thick-skinned fantastical beasts.

It’s an all-out war in the land of Montel and no one is safe from the threat of destruction. Strempunk or fantasy/magic; choose a side and join the fight.

Black Desert

Black Desert

Black Desert is a Korean fantasy MMORPG developed by Pearl Abyss that is currently in its closed beta testing stage. It takes place in a fantasy world where two rival nations are constantly in conflict, the Republic of Calpheon and the Kingdom of Valencia. There are three confirmed races, the Elves, Humans, and Giants; and two races coming soon, the Dwarves and Hobbits. The characters of each respective race are beautifully designed and very detailed to fit seamlessly into the crowded contemporary medieval cities, towns, villages, and overall environment of Black Desert Online.

This game thrives due to its arsenal of features. The weather system is true to life creating realistic environments where players are affected by climate conditions. This system goes hand in hand with the farming, fishing, and breeding features available in-game. A player cannot fish in the desert or grow fruits because it’s unnatural to the environment and climate, but it is possible to raise camels there because the conditions are appropriate. The day and night system in Black Desert works in cycles, where shopkeepers and civilians go about their business in the day and many return to their homes at night. The transition from day to night is progressive, with dawn and dusk visible as the dates transition.

Black Desert is building hype quickly and with good reason. It’s currently unavailable in the U.S., but this is one of the games you must look out for if you’re looking for an immersive and cutting-edge MMORPG.

Battlestar Galactica Online

Battlestar Galactica Online

Inspired by the TV series, Battlestar Galactica Online makes for a very good browser-based MMORPG. It was developed and published by Bigpoint and Artplant, released for open beta on February 11, 2011. The fans of the series looking for a complex plot and storyline will be quite disappointed however. The game doesn?t focus on storytelling and without a decent amount of information to back the game events up, throws the player right in the middle of a war raging between Humans and Cylons.

In Battlestar Galactica Online, the player will be able to choose from the two factions available: the Humans whose primary objective is finding a new home-planet and the Cylons, intelligent, evolving robots which now hunt their creators, the humans. After the players choose the faction, the character customization will allow them to tweak their avatars by adjusting body parts, adding battle marks and tattoos. Afterwards the player will have to decide what battle ship to control. Note that ship control is smooth, but might require an accommodation time.

The game will feature:
Modern tanks like the M1A1 Abrahms, the Challenger and the K2, along with your favorites from WWI and WW2.

A Unit Commander mode where you can command more than one tank in battle.

Battlefield Heroes

Battlefield Heroes

Battlefield Heroes is Electronic Arts free-to-play third person shooter. With stylish cartoony graphics, this game is aimed mainly at casual gamers or anyone who likes funny and cartoony gameplay, but still wants to show who’s boss when flaunting their skills.

Battlefield Heroes does not aim to displace or compete with the Battlefield series, which has been captivating gamers since 2002 with Battlefield 1942, as much as present a fun and free ‘sandbox’ style alternative to its counterparts. Quick battles and a built-in matchmaking system ensures both noobs and leet players are paired with equally skilled players, so that fair play prevails.

The Commando, Gunner and Soldier are featured as the three playable in Battlefield Heroes. The two sides include the ‘National Army’ and the ‘Royal Army’ who are at war, for some reason or another. The classes are completely balanced, and besides the different looks of the weapons, they match each other in terms of ammo, speed, agility, etc. Each class may carry two weapons and one explosive, so some tactical thinking is required when approaching the enemy vehicles. They are able to pilot every vehicle and offer different abilities. Battlefunds and Valor Points are the games in-game currency which allow the player to be able to customize themselves and upgrade some items.

Battleborn

Battleborn

[/review]Awesomenauts somewhat resembles the lovechild of League of Legends, Metal Slug, and Castle Crashers. One day, the developers evidently decided they wanted to see what would happen if they took the MOBA genre, mashed it up with a bunch of new gameplay elements, then made the whole thing two-dimensional. The result…actually works really, really well.

First, let’s start things off with a bit of backstory. The year is 3587, and it’s an era of perpetual war. All across the universe, gigantic armies of robots clash with one another over deposits of a mysterious resource known only as Solar. At the center of this conflict is a collective of mercenaries known only as the Awesomenauts. Though each individual ‘naut has their own reason for fighting, most of them are there for one reason: glory.

Although it’s a platformer, Awesomenauts follows a formula that MOBA veterans will find immediately familiar – though it is by necessity pared down a bit. On either side of a map, you have two teams of three, each one trying to destroy the other team’s Solar Drill in order to achieve victory. They’re assisted in this by small armies of robots which spawn at regular intervals. Like I said, sounds pretty familiar, right?

Where Awesomenauts varies from other MOBAs is in its core mechanics.

You start the match by playing through a small minigame in which you’re falling from space in a drop pod. You’re able to control the descent of this pod, picking small deposits of Solar out of the air as you do so. You’ll also be doing this every time you die.

There might be as many as three different paths you can take to reach your opponent’s drill, with neutral creeps and traps scattered throughout. Furthermore, characters don’t really have access to items: instead, Solar (which is gained by destroying towers, killing creeps, and killing other Awesomenauts) is used to upgrade your abilities and level up your character – take care which upgrades you choose, as you’ll max out at 12. Characters also passively generate a small amount of Solar over time while alive.

Speaking of characters, roles in Awesomenauts tend to be very fluid and flexible – much more than any traditional MOBA. Although certain ‘nauts fit well into certain roles (Voltar, for example, is pretty much stuck as a healer/support), most characters are capable of serving more than one purpose. This fluidity and variety ensures that it never feels like you’re building your character ‘wrong,’ though fans of deeper strategy and more complex mechanics may find Awesomenauts to be lacking in this respect. Where balance is concerned, Ronimo’s been hard at work managing the issues, and I’ve not really encountered any heroes that feel entirely ‘overpowered’ in my time with the game.

Ronimo has further done a fantastic job of managing the freemium elements of their title. This is not a pay-to-win game, folks: much like League of Legends, shelling out real cash will only net you a new character (or skins for that character). The skins, furthermore, are all very well-designed, and each one feels unique enough from the others that it actually gives a character a completely different feel when playing.

Control-wise, you’ve got two options: mouse and keyboard, or controller. Which you choose is really a matter of taste, truthfully. That said, you should be warned that in most cases, you’re naturally going to be capable of greater precision with the former.

Overall, Awesomenauts is…well, awesome. It represents a magnificently fresh take on the action-RTS genre, one which is capable of drawing in both newbies and genre veterans. There’s just one tiny caveat: it’s not 100% free. You can pick it up on Steam for $9.99.

Awakening of Heroes

Awakening of Heroes

Awakening of Heroes (AoH) is a fantasy MOBA currently under development by Serbian video game developer COFA games. The game begs the question, “what if ordinary people were heroic?” and throws you into a world where the mundane becomes extraordinary. Very quickly will you realize that you’re not there to save the world, you’re there to save your place in it.

Awakening of Heroes will be very similar in style to League of Legends and DOTA. It will feature two bases (on the lower left and top right corner) equipped with healing wells, barracks, inhibitors, and towers, connected by lanes and surrounded by a jungle. As of right now, there are 4 characters available in alpha testing: an old lady, a schoolboy, a butcher, and a chick with a whip.

AoH will allow players to invite their friends to join the fun through the use of their social media button. A really special feature found in the game is its compatibility with the Oculus Rift. This allows spectators to observe matches in real-time, vertically scaled, 3D.

Atlantica Online

Atlantica Online

Nine mercenaries crawl through a dungeon to slay a creature of unimaginable evil… Sounds like the classic MMORPG fallback, but Altantica Online, Nexon America?s free-to-play title, has a couple of important twists that keep it fresh.

Right from the start, the game?s a little different. Instead of the usual ?warrior? or ?mage,? your weapon is your class. You can play as a Spear Main, a Cannon Main, or one of seven other weapons. But that?s just your first character. You?ll eventually control a formation of up to nine mercenaries?you?ll recruit each of them, customize their stats, manage their gear, and strategically direct their actions in battle to (ideally) link up for powerful combo spells, similar to what you?d do in a single-player, party-based RPG. Here?s the next kicker: the combat of Atlantica is turn-based strategy, a battle system that doesn?t exist anywhere else in the MMORPG sphere.

Once you?ve set up your formation, you can group with other players to complete quests and explore dungeons as one massive team, or you can join a guild and take over towns based on real-life locales, like Paris and Tokyo. Atlantica has a clever system that lets you customize the services your town offers and collect taxes when other players use them, encouraging healthy player interaction and a little bit of Machiavellian scheming. If your guild is ambitious, you can even ally with friendly guilds to form nations and declare war on other guild-nations. And the point of all this political maneuvering? To force rival clans to pay hefty tributes or risk open warfare in the streets!

Atlantica is set in real locations and based on actual historical events. In the story, the ancient rulers of Atlantis left inert relics around the world when their civilization collapsed, and now someone?s reactivating them, creating chaos across space and time. Your job is to do what any good general would do: travel the globe, track down the mysterious instigator, and stop him. You?ll meet historically-based?and often recruitable?NPCs along the way, including the mighty Odysseus and a sassy, pistol-wielding sheriff named Christine from the Wild West. Intense moments like fighting through the Trojan War, orchestrating the fall of the Holy Roman Empire, or taking on Count Dracula before a quick jaunt to ancient Greece are woven into Atlantica?s everyday gameplay.

Atlantica?s other little touches round out the experience. The economy has been carefully tuned, thanks to a crafting system that lets you craft just about anything you need, including weapons, skill books, furniture for player houses…even items that can turn back time. A unique ?TBS Mission? mode lets you earn loot by participating in tactical, turn-based combat across an isometric map. The PvP community is rich, rewarding, and competitive. The plethora of recruitable mercenaries and their branching skill trees means you?ll want to tweak and re-tweak your formation until you?ve got the perfect set-up, especially because new mercenaries are added every few patches.

Atlantica Online?s got depth. Just when you think you?ve mastered one system, three others crop up for you to explore. It sounds intimidating, but take it one step at a time and before you know it, you?ll find yourself rounding up nine mercenaries and leading them into a dungeon to slay a creature of unimaginable evil.
