Vainglory is a mobile MOBA designed from the ground up by a development team composed of veterans from Rockstar, Riot and Playfish. Super Evil Megacorp has created a mobile multiplayer online battle arena game that takes full advantage of the touch screens that we’ve grown accustomed to harvesting crops and slicing fruit on.

Vainglory is powered by Super Evil Megacorp’s proprietary, and fittingly named, E.V.I.L. engine, to deliver incredibly detailed and high quality graphics, ones you would expect from a triple A title from your favorite game companies.

Arena of Fate is an upcoming action packed online multiplayer game from Crytek. The game will feature legendary heroes from history and also ones from fantasy, that will battle in a MOBA-like arena. Arena of Fate offers 5 vs. 5 battles featuring characters like Robin Hood, Fenrir the werewolf, Joan of Arc and Nicola Tesla.

More will be revealed at E3 2014, but Crytek has said that an Early Access Beta will begin later in the summer of 2014.

HUNT: Horrors of the Gilded Age

Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age is a third-person, four-player cooperative action game that is set in the late 19th century. The game will be coming to both PC and consoles, although we don’t know for sure which consoles yet. The game will make its debut at E3 2014 and is set to be relased this fall.

“In Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, players will be counting their bullets and crying out for help as they delve deeper into the shadowy world we’ve created,” said David Adams CEO of Crytek USA and former CEO of Vigil Games. “From the outset of the development process, we’ve poured our imaginations into the game so that everyone who plays Hunt will discover a challenging experience that feels fresh, captivating and rich in possibilities.”

The Crew

The Crew is an open-world driving MMO with RPG elements. The game is being developed by Ivory Tower and published by Ubisoft. In The Crew you will playing online with friends and strangers on a single server, and be earning XP, leveling up, and tuning your cars into each of five unique specs, all fully customizeable by you! The maps in the game will be based on locations in the United States, whether they are on asphalt roads, dirt tracks or wide open terrain. The country is divided into five regions, each with their own environments, moods, and driving experiences.

Knight’s Fable is a browser MMORPG that features much of the content that fans of the genre love including an expansive loot system, opportunities for rare and epic gear, gems and heroes, an array of trainable beasts of the ever popular PvP arena.  “We’re confident that Knight’s Fable will be a success.” Said Frances Sun, Product Manager for Knight’s Fable. “Players can train heroes and beasts, and then use them together in battle alongside their main character. Many MMORPG’s only offer the opportunity to level up a single character. ”

In the game you will be able to raid dungeons and pillage the land in search of loot while you recover ancient gear to piece together equipment sets with some crazy bonuses.  You’ll also be able to insert rare gems into your gear for added stat upgrades.  Additionally, the game gives you the ability to capture and train wild beasts to fight alongside you.  The beasts all have their own unique skills, auras and stats, and you’ll be able to use them to your advantage in battle.  To help boost your chance of success, you can visit taverns around the realm to recruit different heroes that also posses their own skills, stats and special abilities.  The ability to create your own battle party is one of the best features of Knight’s Fable.

Knight’s Fable features a fairly passive approach to gameplay and questing. Fighting and traveling to different map locations are handled outside of player control, which is ideal for gamers looking for an exciting story but don’t have the time to invest fully or engage their full attention. Outside of navigating menus and clicking NPCs/locations, there is little that the player needs to worry about. Some hardcore gamers may see this as a turn off, but even the most experienced of players can find an enjoyable, casual experience if they take the time to explore some of the game’s more advanced mechanics.

Much of Knight’s Fable’s depth comes from leveling up your main character, those in your party and your beast. All of your leveling, purchasing and upgrading contributes to an overall BR rating which determines your total strength. Players will need to quest, dungeon crawl and pay special care to get their BR as high as possible. It’s a system that is straightforward in design but contains enough contributing factors and complexities to give advantage to anyone willing to dig deeper. (For more information on this, check out our Knight’s Fable Walkthrough – Leveling and PvP Guide!)

The hand-painted art style and sprites look good and suit the gameplay well. While the visuals are nothing ground breaking, they are ideal for the browser game as locations and battles load quickly. Enemies, beasts and NPCs are varied and well designed. Overall, GTArcade’s solid art direction presents an experience that is varied and cohesive.

Important to mention in a Knight’s Fable review is monetization. The game is free-to-play and does a good job of incorporating microtransactions without hindering the player or affecting the experience negatively. Many character upgrades of the game will enter a cooldown period after prolonged use and while you can purchase in-game gold to bypass this, it is by no means a requirement. None of the cooldowns felt excessive or unfair making the gold option a welcomed choice, never an obligation.

Today we’ll be talking about Shards Online from Citadel Studios. The game was first announced in early March when the developer announced that they are working on a ‘badass new sandbox RPG’ called Shards. Quick backstory about Citadel Studios, they are a team that has previous work on MMOs like Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer.

Now, two months later they finally release some significant information along with the Kickstarter launch. The headline of the campaign and main selling point is that Shards will be a collection of online worlds where the community has ultimate power, a platform for player generated content. Their press releases boasts that they want to be the first ever player run MMO.

So first off, what is a player run MMO? Is it some super sandbox game where players can basically mold the world as they see fit? Can we code our own features into the game? Create entire worlds to inhabit? Enjoy limitless character progression? Short answer, yes, all of that. Citadel Studios wants to break away from the modern MMO conventions of levels, classes and quest grinds, they want a living virtual world, where stories can emerge naturally as players explore the worlds laid out before them.

Basically players who purchase the game, and have an optional premium subscription if desired, and they’ll run their own ‘shard’, which, to portray it simply is like your own sort of game world. These shards are connected together to form a larger server, or as they call it, a cluster. The clusters tie the shards together with a single rule-set, to enforce fairness among characters in the cluster. You can travel between shards in your cluster with special portals that the server admins, or gods, create.

The moddability on Shards really knows no bounds. You can adjust how combat works and plays out, you can create a new magic skill and its effects, you can create new animal species, create story-lines, quests, create NPCs, equipment, spawners, write AI for NPCs and creatures, create new game modes .. and the list can go on. There’s really an infinite amount of ways to customize your shard and more and more will be added as development goes on I’m sure.

Shards will of course have what we would consider a must for an MMO in this day and age, Crafting to create new items, weapons, armor and such from raw materials, player-housing where you can build your homes with your own architectural style, cultivate the land around you and create everything inside to make yourself comfortable. You’ll even be able to employ NPCs to do tasks that you’re not interested in. You can make them mine for ore all day, or run your crops, whatever.

Let’s quickly talk about combat. And you’ll have to excuse me, the combat may be difficult to really explain, as you can change how combat works depending on your shard. So, if you don’t like how combat works, you can change it. But this is what I gather so far. Shards combat system is tactical and interactive, and your skill as a player will play an important role. You’ll be able to build up any skills that you’d like to suit your character, employ special abilities and basically create your own fighting style. Whether that’s a spell-wielding assassin, or a backstabbing knight mage healer. I dunno, just throwing out words now.

In a sandbox game like this, there should be as few restrictions for how you want to build your character as possible. Shards Online will do this by focusing on skills as the core aspect of character development. You will only have the basic knowledge when you enter the game, like, swinging a weapon. You will learn new skills from a trader in town, or from tombs in a dark dungeon, or from another player who has already mastered them. Once you’ve learned some skills you can start gaining experience towards other skills as you advance. There is a limit to how much skill one mortal can possess which forces you to specialize. Upon reaching your skill cap, you will need to deactivate certain skills in order to gain in others. Skill points in inactive skills are never lost, and players will be able to adjust their character’s specializations periodically.

H1Z1: Just Survive is a post-apocalyptic zombie survival MMO from Daybreak Games Co. The game is set fifteen years after an initial horrifying outbreak of the virus where players must survive against the infected, wild animals, and other survivors. The game was first announced by then SOE’s president John Smedley in early April of 2014. Heading to both the PC and Playstation 4 in late 2014, the game will soon be coming to Steam via Early Access.

H1Z1 is set in SOE’s own version of the United States, think Middle-America. The world has been overtaken by this epidemic and players will fight to survive. The game will offer a sandbox style of gameplay with a character progressions system, crafting, building and scavenging. The world will have all the tools you need to survive, and the use of the Forelight engine will allow players to interact with the world in a way that feels natural to what life may be like in such a situation. You can take the role of a farmer, creating food for your friends, or a gun-toting killing machine whose sold reason to live is to kill anything that walks.

Rising Generals is a PvP-heavy online game is modern warfare centric, giving players access to numerous tanks, armored vehicles and dozens of deadly planes and other aircraft. Rising Generals will be playable on your mobile device as well as your browser. Cross platform functionality will be the name of the game as you’ll be able to play this modern warfare strategy game simultaneously on all of your devices.

The PvP-action will hold up to 40,000 players in a single world, which will house both single players and large alliances (Battle Groups). In the game you will become the commander of a military base, which you will need to upgrade and staff with troops. You will defend your base against hostile neighbors will also trying to take out enemies and other players to create one of the best military bases in the world!

Players can register for the upcoming beta which is scheduled for the summer of 2014.

Ravenmarch: Empire in Flames is a new MMORTS game from Kabam. It is a city-building, strategy management type game set in a fictional medieval setting. The main goal in the game, as with most in this genre, is to raise a powerful army and to establish a dominance over your foes. The game relies on economic development of your city, strategic planning in both building and battling and social interaction amongst friendly units.

Stormfall is a take on the classic city-building, city-management game. Unfortunately it doesn’t break away enough from the pack to make it a standout game that would usher in a huge player-base. But the game is by all means, a decent play. So let’s get into it. Stormfall: Age of War pits you into the middle of a race for land between several warlords after a kingdom has fallen. As a player in the game you must restore the peace and build up your army to keep it that way.

As with many games in the genre, you start out with a small kingdom and have to build up your castle, army and resources in order to get more and more powerful. One thing that Stormfall does that many other MMORTS games doesn’t, is engross you in a story about how the world came to be this way, and how you can help it return. The game does have voice-overs for many quests, which can be sort of hit-or-miss. In the end you’ll end up doing a lot of sitting and waiting while you build up your army to prepare for your enemies and/or to attack them.

Angel Alliance is the latest browser, turn-based strategy MMORPG from Kabam, set in a fantastical world with heroes, magic and of course, as the title states, Angels. The game is based on the classic good versus evil conflict where the players represent the forces of light, who must reclaim the world from the hands of evil forces. Players will choose between three classes (Warrior, Mage or Archer) and must travel the world, leveling up their character, their team and their angels to create an unstoppable battle troupe.

Angel Alliance is a game that largely unfolds with minimal player involvement. On screen prompts and auto-pathing make themselves readily available, which keeps the pace of the game moving briskly. This makes it an ideal adventure for casual gamers or those with limited time to devote. Point and click movement is also available for those looking to get more involved in exploring the game’s gorgeous painted environments.

Battles are fought independent of player actions through auto-attacks. Despite being classified as a turn-based strategy browser game, there is really little strategy involved, as each fight is boiled down to nothing more than the player’s Battle Rating: an accumulation of the player’s attack, defense, HP, team, etc. The team with the higher Battle Rating will win every time. Still, players determined to maximize their team’s power will find plenty of customization available to boost their rating. Rewards from battles are bountiful and will often give players significant amounts of experience, gold and loot.

Angel Alliance does offer an interesting training program to help you gain powers for your Angel, as well as mounts and group features. There’s also a PvP arena, so you can take everything you’ve gained and go up against your friends and enemies. There are a decent number of players, and everyone seems friendly enough to help you along your journey and offer a good amount of social interaction, which is a great reason to play. While not the most engaging browser MMORPG available, players looking for a fast-paced distraction and entertaining story will find good value in Angel Alliance.

Dragons and Titans

You’d expect a game with a title like Dragons and Titans to be full of flame and fury. You’d expect that a MOBA meaning to compete with the likes of Dota 2 and League of Legends would offer up some quality, and bring to the table something unique. You’d expect flying a dragon about the battlefield and raining fiery death on your foes would be exciting.

Unfortunately, in this case, you’d be wrong on pretty much all counts. While Dragons and Titans offers up a promising selection of different characters (if it’s ever once been called a dragon in lore, gaming, or mythology, it’s probably a part of this game’s cast), it doesn’t really do much with them. Yes, every dragon has a unique set of mechanics and a completely unique appearance associated with it. And yes, your rider can equip any of a number of different legendary weapons to add new abilities to their repertoire. Promising as all those ides are, though…they still don’t work in practice.

The problem that lies at the core of Dragons and Titans is that it oozes mediocrity. For one, the gameplay simply isn’t all that exciting. Even the fastest dragons feel slow, cumbersome, and awkward, flying about lazily as you direct them in battle. As though to compensate for this, the AI in single-player missions is thoroughly incompetent, requiring absolutely no effort to take down.

It doesn’t help that the game’s ugly as sin, plagued with a series of clunky, unintuitive interfaces. To be fair, neither League of Legends nor the original Dota looked particularly stunning when they came out, but both titles looked better than this. Choosing my dragon and weapon felt like a constant struggle, and when I finally got into the game, the controls continued to present a significant problem.

Even all that mediocrity might be tolerable, were it not for the fact that everything – including upgrades – can be purchased with real money, adding an irksome ‘pay to win’ aspect to the game.

Virtually the only area in which Dragons and Titans doesn’t seem to fall short is its matchmaking system, which allows players to pre-select their roles before they find their way into a game. It’s a welcome addition, and one which would thoroughly mitigate many of the problems with Dota 2 and League of Legends. Unfortunately, that’s hardly enough to redeem the game’s other faults.

If the idea of roaring into battle on the back of a dragon excites you, look elsewhere. Clumsy mechanics, poorly-designed interfaces, and a healthy dose of pay-to-win makes this halfhearted entry into the genre one to avoid.

For players new to competitive online games, Dragons and Titans is quick and simple to learn. At this point in the game, there are over 30 unique dragons to control and 30 different weapons for each match. Even the most veteran MOBA player will find something new to master. Choose between multiple game modes: *5v5 PvP Battles *Team Co-Op *Single Player A new weapon or dragon is introduced to the game every week.

Brick-Force is a sandbox shooter where you build worlds and maps that you’ve always dreamed of, brick by brick. Share your virtual playgrounds with the community and use them as the backdrop for fast-paced shooting matches.

In Build mode, you can use simple building blocks to construct detailed environments. There’s a whole range of different brick styles to choose from, and you can even place key interactive elements such as turrets, launch pads or bomb sites.
