There’s a trend in the world of MMORPGs: gamers are like magpies. We love our rare items, we love our loot, and we can’t get enough of the bragging rights that go hand-in-hand with an awesome drop. Developers are keyed into this trend, of course…which is why they’ve populated their titles with some of the most difficult-to-locate items possible.
If an MMORPG game offered you a really rewarding goal for an extensive journey, would you take that route?
Sometimes, it’s best to just let a franchise die; better to leave a concept tucked away than see it fleshed out. Unfortunately, the games we’re looking at today represent instances where the development team didn’t do that. Instead, they saddled us with games that may have been better off unmade.
Tell me MMO Attack fans, which MMO do you think will be the next to succumb to the free to play strategy?
Developers continue to claim that pay-to-play is the only viable financial model for an MMO game looking to maintain a reliable subscriber base and regular updates.
The most requested title to transition to an MMORPG comes from fans of the increasingly popular series, Pokemon. Is there any reason why Nintendo would want to restrict such a successful franchise from expanding even further? This series delves into why Nintendo needs to make Pokemon an MMORPG.
I mean, most stories have a beginning, middle, and end, but there?s no guarantee of an ending in many MMOs and you?d be hard-pressed to point out where the midpoint is. As a result, from my perspective I see no compelling reason to get involved in an MMO.
