Attackers, It’s Bethany here on Wednesday February 19th coming to you with your

cloak that you can’t see, but you’re just going to have to believe me. Today we
have a dose of makeovers to both of the smoldering faces of our SMITE god Agni.

SMITE
players! Our favorite two-faced arsonist has gotten a complete makeover this
week. That’s right, he’s is our guy Agni, the god of fire, and his
changes include brand
new models, animations, 2D Art and FX for a selection of his more popular
skins. There
have also been some changes made to the recovery time of his more powerful
abilities to allow players with higher ping to still execute his more difficult
combos. Along with this current tradition of weeklyWednesday updates
for SMITE, an experimental kind of item tree has been added. A new selection of
items will allow players to take multiple items from the same tree but not the
same tier. This means huge changes for the likes of Qin’s Blades and the
Executioner, in essence giving players stats from multiple items but in a
single slot. There is a link to the rest of the patch notes in our mmoatk.com article.
Alright, so
for this next story I’ll try to set my undying cynicism to the side because
it’s actually some pretty awesome stuff. The developers at Runescape today
announced yet another charity event that will see the Runescape community
coming together for their inaugural GameBlast. This news follows recent charity
events that have seen the Runescape community taking advantage of the recently
released Runescape Bonds system, allowing
players to trade real cash for in-game currency without the risk of third-party
vendors. This latest charity event will once again allow players to donate
their in-game earnings with Jagex, promising to convert these donations into
real-world cash to do some real-life nice stuff. There
will be a double experience points weekend, exciting events, and dozens of
livestreams, all in the aid for charity. High five.
Square Enix
announced today that current players of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn are
now able to download the free PS4 open beta client ahead of this week’s test.
The beta testing event goes underway this Saturday, February 22nd, and
is expected to run for the entire week. Characters created during the beta
event cannot level past 20, and character information will be wiped when it’s
all done and through. It’s currently unclear whether or not PlayStation 3
players will be able to transfer their characters over to the PlayStation 4
version prior to official release, but don’t get your hopes up. PS3 fans are
stoked of the additional power available to the PS4, making the experience of
sometimes fighting invisible foes and ducking invisible blows to your
vulnerable character’s sweet face hopefully go away. PS3 players, upgrade to
the PS4 version free of charge.

The Elder Scrolls Online PVP Gameplay | First Impressions HD
Transcript:
Hey guys Kirk here, and welcome to MMO ATK’s first impressions
of The Elder Scrolls Online PvP. PvP is,
hopefully, just how you expect it, a wild crazy slaughterfest with blood, murder
and trebuchets all over the place.
There is a lot to take in on your first trip into
Cyradil. You’ll be going through the
menus, figuring out what your faction owns, where the nearest keep battle is,
where you should fast travel to get there and help out, where your guild is, if
you don’t have a guild, where you can find players to team up with etc. Once you figure that out, it’s a breeze! No, not really. OK, so what is this alliance war? The whole point of PvP is to capture enemy
keeps, which earns you more alliance points, which allows you to capture more
keeps to control imperial city. You earn
Alliance points by doing pretty much anything in the PvP zone, from doing
quests to controlling keeps, to capturing elder scrolls to using and buying siege
weapons and more. Trebuchets, ballastic
catapults, hurling meat and flaming oil, and battering rams to break down the
walls of the fortresses, that’s what you want.
That’s your bread and butter.
OK, so how does capturing keeps work? You and your team will scope out a keep that
you want to capture. You’ll first look
for smaller resource points on the outskirts of each keep, the lumber-mill,
which makes the doors of the keep stronger, the farms, make the keeps guards
stronger, and the mine’s which makes the walls stronger. So your best bet is to capture the small
resource points around a keep before you make your attempt at zerging inside,
because capturing those resources gives your alliance a much better chance at
breaking in. The resource points do have
their own set of guards, which are AI controlled, they themselves are not so
difficult to defeat, so if you are the owner of a keep, don’t think those dudes
are going to be hold your resources for very long, if the enemy is coming, you
better go defend those points, or watch them fall easily.
So now comes the good shit.
The tackling of the keep. When
you’re alliance is ready to attack,
you’ll want to set up your trebuchetes and catapults and place them outside the
keep walls, conversely if you are in the keep, you’re going to be placing these
right on top of the walls and trying to knock out the enemies from below. The first goal from the attacking party is to
take out the outer walls and knock down the main door. Most, if not all of the damage, is done using
the siege weapons, your hand weapons do next to nothing, however, once you get
inside the first and second walls, you’ll definitely be doing hand to hand
combat with other players, as well as NPCs that are build around the keeps to
help you fight.
The siege battles can be complete chaos. If you’re attacking, you’re trying to break
down walls and gates, if you’re defending you may try to sneak outside and
destroy the siege weapons, but at the same time, the enemy team will be trying
to take you down, before you get to the siege weapons. It’s important, no matter which side you are
on, to be spending your alliances points, more-so for the attacking team,
because if you run out of siege equipment, you’ve got a long way to go to get
more, but if you’re inside, there are NPCs where you can buy them fairly
easily.
Being on a siege weapon is fairly easy, aim where you want
to shoot, look for the arrow that points out where you’ll be bombing and let it
fly. Catapults are great for taking down
walls and doors, trebuches are good for knocking out other siege weaponry, as
well as taking down walls and doors, while the battering ram is essential for
placing right at the walls to get them down quicker. I’m not sure the exact time to takes to take
down a door, but from I witnessed it takes around 5 minutes for a battering
ram, with some help, to get a door down.
Dying. Dying is a
huge part of a siege warfare. The map is
huge, so dying can be a huge disadvantage for you. If you’re attacking the keep, you may be
spawned at the nearest location that you control, but you’ll still have to run
a shit ton to get there, and also when your keep is being attacked, your
faction cannot spawn at that particular keep, so you’ll have to run a shit-ton
from your nearest owned keep to start defending as well. Of course, your teammates can help revive
you, another great reason to be part of a party or a guild, or some sort of
group that you can rely on, as they will know where you died, or you can yell
at them in chat to find your lifeless soul.
Soul gems are the key to getting rezzed, so your team will need to have
a bunch of soul gems on them, otherwise plan on long runs, or lost keeps.
Side note here, PvP is for groups, I mean, you don’t need to
be in a huge zerg group with hundreds to take a keep, but you’ll want to be
part of something of significant size, with some sort of leadership. During my time in Cyradil I was lucky enough
to join up with a group that was using a VOIP, so that we could arrange our
fights, and keep track of everything going on.
A well orchestrated group is much more effecting then a bunch of random
dudes running around throwing meat at walls.
If you’re on the attacking team, and you make it through the
second set of walls, you are probably ready to take on the inner keep, which is
the last stronghold for the opposing alliance.
Be ready for when the final door comes down, for the last ditch effort
of everyone in a bloody hell mess. If you
make it through all that, you can now peacefully, hopefully, capture the final
point in the keep and claim it for your alliances own. And boom, you’re done. Time to move on to the next one.
It’s important to point out that while you are doing all the
PvP stuff, capturing keeps, taking resources, there are still quests, and
special items and crafting that can be done on Cyradiil. So there’s plenty of PvE stuff still going on
in the game, you can spend your time doing those side-quests, if you will, or
join up with a party and take keeps, which is probably why you’ll jump into
Cyradil in the first place.
All in all, PVP in Elder Scrolls Online is a shit ton of
fun. There’s a non-stop battle going on
and there’s always something for you to partake in. I’m running out of breathe, but don’t take my
word for it, jump into Cyradil today and start taking down some keeps of your
own. If this part of ESO doesn’t get
your heart pumping, then there’s something wrong with you!

Transcript:
A new sandbox MMO has appeared on
Kickstarter under the name Terrayn, spelled T E R R A Y N. Now, sandbox might be restricting the game
too much, a desert might be a more fitting term, as the developer has laid out
quite the ambitious effort for their game.
Aside from the traditional sandbox features such as in-depth crafting
and detailed character progressions, Terrayn boasts two new features that
really stood out to me. First is the
API, or Application Programming Interface, which allows players to program and
develop the game from within the world itself.
What does that mean? Oh you know,
you can add interactive elements, shift buildings around and build just about
anything, you know, pretty standard stuff.
Secondly is the infrastructure supporting the game. One realm, one server and cloud
technology. It’s hard to give you all
the scope of Terrayn in a short news article here, so check out their
Kickstarter, and pledge your support.
Since the last story was so long, let
me make this one quick. Today was meant
to be a day of celebration for Wurm Online, following the latest patch, update
1.2. Unfortunately the celebrations were
short-lived, following a DDOS attack that has taken the game down, and as of
this filming, is still down. They have
put out a 10,000 euro reward for tips and/or evidence leading to a conviction.
Laslty, PopPace, a game platform for
many browser based MMOs has announced the beginning of the open beta period for
their first self-developed MMORPG, Holy Blade Online. The open beta begins later today, and will
introduce a “cutting edge game engine” that delivers a variety of
“impressive features” including a “fashion system” and
“extensive pet options” and a huge variety of “challenging
dungeons”. Much quote, so wow. Anyways, to celebrate the release there are
many events meant to lure you into the game.
Events include showering you with extensive gifts.

Reality Squared Games today announced
their new MMORPG League of Angels is officially out of beta. The beta
peroids proved successful, attracting over 200,000 registered players, many of
which played through both phases. The developers revealed the addition of
two new Angels, Amora, and Nyssa, along with several new features including the
marriage system, and ranking tables for competitive play.
NCSoft recently published its 4th
Quarter financial reports, showing that Guild Wars 2 lead the way to a
successful year for the company. Most of NCSoft’s recent titles had a
successful 2013, with Lineage showing tremendous growth, and Guild Wars 2
raking in over $115 million dollars. Among the other highlights of the
report, Blade and Soul’s chinese release saw a huge surge in Royalties, while
the company looks forward to the Wildstar launch later this year.
Lastly, the fine folks over at MMO Champion
have found some leaks to the Heroes of the Storm Alpha client. They dug
up info that reveals images of a log-in screen, options menus, loading screens,
instruction pages, and unreleased Heroes with descriptions and stats.

So Brad McQuaid first began teasing his new MMO in December
last year, and released the Kickstarter for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen in
January. Despite the hugely positive
response he’s had thus far, the campaign is still very short of its lofty goal
of $800,000. As we stand today, 9 days
until the end of the campaign, they are not even at the halfway point, but Brad
has let supporters know that whether or not the Kickstarter is successful, the
game will be built. After the
Kickstarter his team will set up a website with ways to pledge and re-pledge
and are looking for other investors to help take the project to completion.
It will be a difficult task to follow up the release of
Superman, but Star Sapphire might just be the right champion to do it. After Superman’s release last month in Infinite
Crisis, Star Sapphire, the champion of love, will join the ranks as a deadly
blaster later this month. She will be a
long-range damage dealer with the ability to push lanes and take down
objectives, while having the ability to summon her Predator, which is a pink
alien-like creature, who has strong auto-attack and the ability to root. Star Sapphire will be available in-game on
February 26th.
Lastly, Aeria Games today announced the release of the first
major content update for its free to play fantasy MMORPG, Aura Kingdom. With the most successful launch in the company’s
history, the new patch hopes to attract new players with a brand new class, a
new raid, and new end-game dungeon content.
The new Brawler class brings the game up to 9 playable classes. The brawler is a melee specialist, with a
variety of deadly blows using his sharp claw-like weaponry that call upon the powers
of the earth and the sky.

Cheaters, swindlers, the fraudulent, be aware! The popular survival MMO Rust has introduced a new anti-cheat system called CheatPunch. The will help combat the numerous hacks and cheats that have been placed into the game by a number of hooligans, maybe even by some of you watching. Creator Garry Newman, not to be confused with the flamboyant English musician, has stated that almost 5000 players have already been banned. He goes on to tell these players that they have been “naughty boys,” and that they know what they have done. Rust plans on putting up a website to show those unfortunate souls proof as to why they were individually banned.
As a long-term world of warcraft player that was never any good, I can appreciate the diligence and painstaking persistence of fishing. With that said, GamesCampus has announced today the starting date for the open beta of their realistic fishing MMO, World Tour Fishing. The game will have 25 progressive character levels, 2 different countries to explore, and over 20 unique fishing locations. There will also be a number of daily tournaments, giving players ample opportunity to show the other who is a better human-being in a competitive setting. At 2:00 PM PST February 27th players will be able to dive deep into World Tour Fishing, bring your rods.
If you play the MMO Lord of Ultima, my condolences to you. The aging MMORTS has announced its official closing date, despite having support of one of the biggest game publishers around. Electronic Arts states that the game will officially be closed on Monday, May 12th. Developers are encouraging players that still have any in-game currency to spend it fast because once the game closes, it’s gone forever. There is a mushy statement from Electronic Arts about the conclusion of this game in our on MMO ATK article. Give it a look if you like movies like the notebook, and that one where Many Moore gets cancer.

Deep Silver recently announced the beginning of the closed
beta sign-ups for its upcoming zombie-themed MOBA game based on the Dead Island
Franchise, Dead Island Epidemic. The
game was first announced in August of last year, but we’ve seen very little
from the developer since then.
Apparently the Alpha test went well so they are ready to bring min more
players to help make Epidemic the best possible ZOMBA, Zombie MOBA,
possible. With a promise of fast-paced
action driven combat where players battle it out for control of vital supply
points, the Dead Island MOBA is one I am looking forward to.
I guess the popular thing nowadays is to sell alpha access
to your game, and roll in the cash. At
least that’s what it seems like with the critical success of both the DayZ
Standalone’s alpha and now Rust, who reached one million in sales. A twitter post from the creator, Garry Newman
revealed that Rust hit 1 million units sold since its release in December. Which got me thinking. Do you guys like the fact that games are
releasing and selling Alpha access to the public? Have you bought DayZ or Rust or EverQuest
Next Landmark or any of the other games selling Alpha access? Let me know below!
And lastly, one of our fans finally sent us some news! We’ve been advertising to you for weeks that
we don’t know everything going on in the MMO world, so please send us any
stories. MMO Serbia let us know that a
new game from a Serbian Developer, of course, has begun asking for players to
register for Alpha keys. Awakening of
Heroes, a MOBA game in which a bunch of ordinary folks become heroes is asking
for Alpha sign-ups on its website. What
do we know about the game? Well, there’s
not much, a Video is coming soon and there is some info on a few of the heroes
of the game, which include a grandma, a schoolboy, a butcher and a chick with a
whip. Check out awakening of heroes.com.

Victory: The Age of Racing Debuts today on Steam’s Early
Access. The Indie developer Vae Victis
Games brings this adrenaline fueled multiplayer action game to the popular
marketplace in hopes to provide players with a sandbox-like racing experience,
where the community can create the cars, tracks, championships and events. The founders pack for the game is available
now at a 20% discount until February 17th.
The developer has a long and ambitious roadmap, so at the beginning
there are many features that you will not find in the game, as is the case with
every game on Steam Early Access, god Kirk, why did you even need to say that,
you’re such an idiot!
Last month Nival announced a huge array of changes that were
headed to is free to play MOBA, Prime World.
Today those changes take effect, thus beginning the Phase 2 of the game. Phase two is the fancy way of announcing the
next beta testing build that includes a new matchmaking system that will cut
down on the lengthy queue times that many had seen before the patch. Also being introduced are new talents, new
skins, a clan bank and an updated battlefield map. That should easily be enough to keep players
engaged for now, but they had to outdo themselves and introduce a huge gold
giveaway that begins today. Players that
log in will receive 3,000 gold, which is worth $100 in real world moneys.
And lastly, but not leastly, Slightly Mad Studios today
announced a new game in their arsenal of racing titles with the reveal of World
of Speed, an upcoming free to play racing MMO set to launch later this
year. Slightly Mad Studios may not be a
household name, unless of course you’re a racing fan, but they are the dudes
behind Need for Speed: Shift, and Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends, so they
do have a certain sort of .. expertise in the genre. A website as well as launch trailer has been ..
launched that show off some of the graphics of the game, but not much
else. Keep tuned here to MMO ATK

Transcript:
Heva Clonia Online, the free to play 3D fantasy MMO from
OGPlanet has announced the release of Episode 2, which is the first episode
released, since episode 1. That should
be fairly obvious. Umm .. Episode 2 is
one of the biggest in the games history, and brings an array of new features
including regions, dungeons and an increase in the level cap. In additional, HCO will be hosting an event
to celebrate the release, with tons of prizes to be won. Check those out in-game now!
Jagex today released the first trailer for the upcoming free
to play MMO, Transformers Universe.
Originally labeled as a browser MMO, Jagex has since re-branded it as a
MOTA, Massive Online Tactical Action Game, which is so TFC IYKWIM. So speaking of the trailer .. umm .. it was
awful, sorry, the music was terrible! It
was like .. a shitty Limp Bizkit.
Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Limp Bizkit. The gameplay looked interesting enough, It
looks like it’s going to be a MOBA type game, with cars of course. Cars and a semi-truck. I dunno, check it out for yourself.
And lastly, Albion Online, the medieval sandbox MMO, which
is being advertised as the first true cross-platform MMO, released a video
demonstration yesterday showing off the game being run on different systems at
the same time. The video shows the same
game running on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android at the same time, as in, you move
the character in one, it shows moving on all screens. The technology looks like it’s there, I
haven’t seen anything like it yet. I
mean, I’ve played games that can be played on different platforms, but not all
at once. Pretty cool stuff.
